Lady Gaga and The Killers

What is Gaga’s relationship with The Killers? I feel like they’ve floated in each other’s stratospheres but never really acknowledge the other.

Lets take it from the top.

“Let’s go see The Killers and make out in the bleachers.”

So Gaga mentions them on TF, but when her and Brandon Flowers join The Pet Shop Boys onstage in 2009 they barely acknowledge one another at the end (8:55).

Fast forward to 2017 where Brandon Flowers says he saw an interview in which Gaga said she thought The Killers were British.

I don’t know which interview he’s referring to though. Is this a rare or lesser known interview? Or is Brandon mistaken?

It just seems weird to me that Gaga would name drop them in a song but not know they’re an American band given how meticulous to details she is.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

I think she just Name dropped them because in the 2008 it was cool for young people to listen to the killers and the song is about hanging out with cute/cool boys.

I ran when I saw the title.. The Killers, Brandon flowers specifically, is the reason I'm a writer today. I learned so much about music because of Gaga but for me, my love of music started with Brandon. I remember stealing my sister's hot fuss cd and playing it over and over on my radio pretending to be him. I would die if they ever collabed, my two favorites.

I would die too! Would be an absolutely magnetic duo. Your story touches me!

Is it me or he's trying to shout over her at the end when they sing together.

Such taste :giveup::giveup:

This song and music video are ART.  So many little details in the music and even the video.  It's brilliant.

I would also love them to collab with Gaga.

Do you link to your youtube channel with your music?  :enigma:

I think she (or RedOne?) were trying to rhyme Killers and bleachers but the band was very popular at that time. I saw them live in 2009 and they were at the peak of their popularity. It’s rare that after more than a decade they haven’t really met or gone to the same show or something but The Killers are kinda quiet now. They’ve always been this lowkey band.

The Killers were a huge quintessential alt band when The Fame was made so it made sense.

I bet to this day she admires them.

I’m the same age as Gaga (I was also born March of ‘86) and The Killers were a big deal in the summer right after we graduated (2004).

Smile like you mean it, Mr. Brightside, Somebody told me, All the things I’ve done …

Everyone had that cd, the music was playing in all the malls. It really snapshots a very specific few months in 2004 (summer-fall) in my memory.

I had a very old memory about this pop into my head when I was looking through this thread. I know it’s not much, but Brendan Sullivan briefly mentions Boys Boys Boys, specifically the Killers line, in his book Rivington was Ours. My god, I haven’t picked up that book since the year it was released.

“Most of the songs had obscure titling, She put on "Track 2- Lady GaGa" “This is another one along the same lines, only you know that song you guys all play? Girls Girls Girls? I wanted write one like it called Boys Boys Boys and you're going to die when you hear it."

She started up a familiar song with a simple structure. "It's about a girl on a date with a boy she really likes. She gets really excited and she really wants it to go well, but she's mostly excited because it's an occasion, not just a hangout date."

"You mean this girl is going out and not just going out to the same three bars with her bartender boyfriend?"

"Yes. In fact, they even go uptown."

"Oh."

"They go see the Killers in the Garden and make out in the bleachers."

She played the song, another synth-driver track with a drum machine backup. I instantly liked it. It didn't sound like anybody else downtown. She looked up from the laptop with her lips pursed into the smile of one who slaved away all day cooking up a surprise for her true love. Gaga bounced a little, trying to hold in her smile. The jaunty synth notes brought me back to that early spring night when we'd last seen the Killers. I remembered the crisp air and the expressionless leather on all of our friends' jackets. I remember standing on milk crates and looking out on the gorgeous room, everyone with pint glasses aloft.

"Is this the one you told me about at Pianos, with the —“

Gaga put up a manicured index finger. (Meaning both "Shush" and “One Second”

It was the song she told me about earlier. I didn't believe it really existed. The one about the Killers and how their friend was the DJ.

It’s one thing to hear that a friend wrote a song. But this. This isn’t some coffee shop singer-song writer ballad. This is a high-gloss pop masterpiece with tinted windows. This is real. "Let's go to the party / Heard our buddy's the DJ”

Stunned. My mouth hung open. I remember the Killers after-party being a thankless task, which annoyed me and Nikki. But then I heard this song and I realized that maybe, just maybe, somebodythere had fun.

“Did I hear that right?" I gasped. "I'm in your song -playing a song?" As moronically as possible I say, "I'm your buddy! I'm the DJ!”

Just a fun little fact. Brendan also mentions Your Freakin’ Car in the book too. Might have to give it another read.

My. Lawyer. Liked. That.

Sometimes it’s nice to just read about the absolute raw creativity that is The Fame. I know we all feel this way, but that album has that special something.
