Probably she came up with some lyrics and melody and portions as a kid that became part of this song so there's an element of it in the song but shes telling it like she wrote the song as a whole when she was young

 

Tbh I'm sure artists do this constantly. They word stuff about their work to make it sound like they did more than they did...

Actually I think it's more likely she said it as a joke in the way Mariah often does, she's a fun, sarcastic person and ppl just be doing too much like "oh this bitch wrote this song on a 6 key toddler piano that only plays twinkle twinkle little star no matter what keys you press" like if you say the simplest thing like "I had this passing thought as a kid and I kinda applied it while we were working on the song" suddenly that becomes a headline of "M. CAREY WROTE XMAS SMASH AT JUST 7 YEARS OLD ON TOY PIANO" let's be real interviewers love to twist **** to make a headline anyway they can. Also let's not forget Walter wrote with Mariah for every single one of her albums during the 90s  Matolla marriage days so if he thought she was a musical imbecile why is he still really only known for the work he's done with her and still uses those albums as his claim to fame. He needs to calm down big time cuz it doesn't matter if someone knows music in a classically trained manner or not, if you're there for hours upon hours working alongside musicians that do, and you are writing lyrics, and coming up with harmonies and melodies, and doing take after take of vocals, it doesn't matter about the Semantics  of it all that makes you a songwriter. 🤷🏼‍♂️ this is so ridiculous that ppl actually took her seriously when she said this for one and for two it's kinda sad he took it seriously too, and even far more sad is the fact that if you are an OG Mariah fan, if you are part of the lambily, you know Walter is responsible in team with her for all of her biggest hits from debut all the way through the crack in the glass for Tommy and Mariah which was the daydream album so idk why he would worry about a silly statement like this when he's always been known as the dream team behind her classics .
