Don't get me wrong. I love football. However, it's mind-boggling that a man kicking around a ball is considered something this globally important. Like, you are a man. You run around. You touch the ball with your feet for some minutes. You earn hundreds of millions per year. And then you get praised as if you saved the world. Anyone see how wrong and out of touch the entire world actually is?

I play with several of them, calling people negro is so common (in LatAm is not an insult UNLESS you use it as one), is like part of their everyday lingo. The recession calmed a little their egos but wining this award is not doing them any good.

On the positive side, abortion is legal, gay marriage is legal, and most of them are fighting for women's equal rights much better than the rest of the continent.

I am sorry but calling negro (black) someone is not racist? Maybe it's culturally accepted, but c'mon, this is a paradigma of racism

And saying that racism is ok but they are nice because they defens abortion and others is like trying to excuse them

I'm not Argentinian but I'm sorrounded by many of them in my country (one of them being my best friend's wife) and they are all nice people. I don't think it's fair to generalize about a whole country just because of what some fanatics of football said. And let's be real, a lot of football fanatics are like that, it's a shame but it's not only an Argentinian problem.

Let's not generalize please. While Argentina does have a racism problem like every other white-majority country, the point of this thread was to criticize the argentinian team and their fans for their toxic and racist behavior. So let's keep it to that.

No, calling someone negro here is the same as saying blanco, because in most of these countries the majority of their citizens are not white (mestizos or with a big black population)  so they call each other negro or moreno and the word doesn't have any history of hate like the N-word in the US.

Now, in Argentina, where most people are white, using the word negro is not OK because they're mostly white skin latin@s. This is why I said IT A WAS NEGATIVE THING.

 

So never in my comment I implied racism was ok, please get better at reading comprehension or ask before assuming, thanks.
