Some of you are getting borderline racist/xenophobic. Target the players, not the people of the country.

You can’t be racist towards white people

rac·ism

/ˈrāˌsiz(ə)m/

noun

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism by an individual, community, or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.

"a program to combat racism"

I do not condone what the team is doing but you are factually wrong my friend. You can indeed be racist toward white people. Nowhere, in any definition does it ever single out any race which this term doesn't apply to. :coffee:

Can't you just accept the fact that they were being racist and that it has nothing to do with the rest of Argentina not supporting this behavior. Just because they are champions, you can't be this delusional to accept the fact that they weren't the nicest to play against. ****, do I care about the world championships, it's the fact that the way they celebrate is not a way to do it. Stop using history and thinking that we target the whole country. It's this team's behavior throughout the whole championship which has been toxic.

Christ, you guys go overboard just because the players are being criticised for their behavior. None of this behavior is to be talked right and should be defended.

So stop your egoïstic way of thinking that as if we are all bad and accept the fact that this behavior ain't good at all.

Indeed, the attitude of SOME fans is reprehensible. But my comment, which for some reason made you laugh (when it does nothing more than describe the truth), was referring to those who tried to refer these isolated chants and attitudes to a supposed history of extreme racism and links to Nazism. What bothers and outrages me is the lack of reading and critical thinking, but I understand that trying to find it here is to pretend too much.

Football fans doesn't make the whole country racist or homophobic. That's just trash football culture.

Do you really think Argentina is racist because of "nazis"? Or are you just saying that bc you read a thread on twitter?

Oh girl, Americans have a very poor level in all subjects or just history? Do yourself a favor and grab a book. I can recommend several books on Argentine history from a decolonial and anti-imperialist perspective that might come in handy. Maybe you can stop being so blinded by your geoplanetary privileges.

I never said Argentina was racist because of Nazis.

I’m saying it’s not surprising that a country where Nazis fled to has racist issues. The USA also accepted many Nazis (another racist country).

Argentina has racist issues and that’s just a fact. They tried to eliminate indigenous populations just like any other country in the Americas.

Let’s not try to erase history. We know racism transcends generations despite more recent advances in other areas of a society.

Just in this post a xenophobic attack to Americans was made because you are triggered some are criticizing Argentina (although it is true many Americans are ignorant in history). Literally no better than the ignorant Americans.

Can we all just agree that many western countries benefit from racism and/or have a large amount of racist people in them? There’s nothing wrong with calling out racism when it’s being seen, but it’s also borderline xenophobic to label a whole nationality of people racist. :partysick: All this back and fourth over whether Argentina is more racist than France, the US, etc. is pointless. Open a history book and it’s all the same.

I have nothing to say about any race or nation.

The controversy here is about football fans being racist in their celebrations. There IS a problem with football fandom. People get tribal about football and they can behave despicably at times. They will reach for racism, homophobia, whatever stick is handiest, to beat their opponents with. That's not confined to any continent or any country. The singling out of Mbappe would definitely have something to do with his standing as a player. He is the heir to Messi's throne, so no surprise that Argentina fans are mocking him.

I love football, I played the game competitively at a low level for many years, but some aspects of it are just crap.

  • Dennis changed the title to Argentinian team & fans continue to mock Mbappé after World Cup final

Argentinians fans were cackling all week long about the origin of French players, yet not a word was said about the origins of most Argentinians. What do you expect from a country which tried to exterminate the descendants of enslaved Africans living there. If white tr*sh was a country.

While it's true that there was an intent to erase afro and native populations in the 1850s, thta changed after slavery was abolished and unlike a lot of countries, the lack of race based segregation meant that mixing happened a lot. But you're not ready for that discussion

Racist and homophobic country? A country where literally anyone can come and live here, use our education for free, use our hospitals for free, a country where they will be welcomed happily, a country where lgbt marriage is legal, a country where a trans person can do their transition for free, a country where we share with others? Those singigs are football songs, and that's just what they are; football songs and it doesn't reflect the thinking of the society; which is a very open minded society, we might still have many issues (socially), but just like every country, a society isn't twitter.

THANKS

Now find me a POC on their 2022 team

You'd have to add Maradona and Kempes since they were both mixed (and won world cups)

Not surprising after they were calling Mexicans “mexichangos”(meximonkeys). There’s a reason why America Latina Menos Argentina has become a thing. They think themselves European.

yeah, and they came for Malvinas, they had it coming. You don't go for a war that happened less than 40 years agot to mock people.
