The intimacy of small gigs can feel overwhelming and "too close" (not that I've ever performed in front of that many people lol) I couldn't even explain why... but generally I feel more comfortable when there are a lot more people who I barely or don't know (with at least 1 person to accompany me xD) at all than when there are just a few that I loosely know. Like I'd rather go to a party/event with hundreds or thousands of people I don't know instead of going to a party with people I know (but barely like family members u only see once a year) like at weddings for instance. Those people will ask you the most intimate questions that strangers would never ask. And they judge because they know how you live. This also happens with people on social media - there are people with social anxiety who speak on the internet to thousands of people and it's ok. I do that too and I'm cool with that. But at family parties where all your aunts, uncles, cousins etc. are and you're the one speaking and everybody looks at you, I feel uncomfortable. When I do the same in my insta story or live there are hundreds to thousands watching and I don't mind. I don't even know why. In Gaga's case I could imagine that on her bigger gigs (like her concerts) only real lil monsters come and she can be herself completely and not feel judged, while at award shows this may not be the case all of the time. I remember Billie Eilish saying something similar where it’s easier to play for 80k people over 80 people. It’s a lot less intimate with more people, you don’t have to worry about what each individual person thinks and see the emotion on all of their faces. I'm not religious but I can understand praying can help you focus and calm down, like a personal pep talk. I don't think James was making fun of her, he was just placed in an unusual situation for the circumstances by Gaga and then Jimmy and tried to deal with it the best way possible. He probably exaggerated his mouthing at Jimmy a bit to make the anecdote funnier. What matters is Jimmy got the hint and both him and James didn't disturbe the prayer any more.
