This is the key phrase that makes "coexisting" with conservatives impossible :bear:

I've got friends who are conservative, they've been my rock in hard times just as much as any. They've housed me when facing homelessness and looked after me in relapse. They don't share my skin colour or my queerness but that never mattered to them. They don't share my interests but they call me up for a chill any time. If you build bonds with people they might surprise you

I’d totally agree but we’re talking about a political party that has absorbed the UK Independence Party and the British National Party.  This isn’t an argument about a centre left or a centre right party. This is a party brimming with racists and panders to the absolute worst people in the country whilst robbing us blind.

I really don’t care to be civil to people who bring such misery to other people’s lives.

I feel like then you are roping in a lot of people into that who don't deserve that label. I'm sure there's plenty people on both sides of the political spectrum who share views that I would not personally agree with. I don't think it's fair to be so generalistic, if someone were to do that to me I feel like it wouldn't be very fair, I'd argue the most defining reason people may vote Conservative is actually financial reasons, things relating to any wealth or assets they may have. Arguably this is quite funny since the recent developments within the economy thanks to Truss but I don't think everyone voting Conservative is a racist.

This is one part of British culture I am ashamed of. Not even funny tbh plus he's cheated on his wife and was caught through a viral video but here we are giving him a number one...

But do they vote for politicians who perpetuate policies that feed poverty? Those who work against LGBT rights?

Speaking as an American, if I found out a friend voted Republican, they would no longer be my friend :laughga:

Just like my uncle who "has no problem with gay people anymore" but voted for the guy who passed the "Anti-Woke" and "Don't Say Gay" bills :laughga:

Votes are actions which speak louder than words. Sometimes you have to compromise (like holding our noses and voting for Biden), other times you have to cut people loose for constantly contributing to a backwards political party.

Or, to another point, if your friend's votes align with the votes of Nazis, then why are they your friend? :rip:

Like wow… if only we had a government that would help someone facing becoming homeless.  Imagine if we had a government that could help people back on their feet and don’t have to be lucky enough to have someone take them in :triggered:

This is why I laugh at the “please be civil to Conservatives/Republicans” …

Like how can I be civil to people that are literally eroding my rights.  I think I’m entitled to call them a few names at the least :laughga:

Tories have been in power 12+ years and personally haven't seen myself lose a single right but if you wanna be dramatic then sure. I'm not saying they don't have bullshit policies like any other political party but I feel like you're going with a certain narrative and nothing will make you see otherwise and that doesn't leave much room for discussion. Also, there's like 300+ tory MPs, you hear mostly about a select few that make the headlines and are morally dubious, but a lot of them are just regular MPs that probably do a lot for the communities they represent and don't make the tabloid front page.

Those are not the only two policies that exist. The funny thing is I vote Labour in every election, but I have friends who don't. And we can still come together and be best friends, am I going to cast out friends that I've known my whole life? I've got a best friend who is very progressive and anti capitalist and also a friend who's more conservative and pro capitalism and we get drunk and talk politics and actually debate real **** but do we walk away and call each other evil and throw our toys out the pram because someone doesn't agree with our views? No. Because this is the real world, and if you actually wanted to make progress with any of the issues you hold dear the first thing you shouldn't do is label the other side evil because all you're doing is being devisive. And I'd argue that's the reason modern politics is so ****ed up is because online discourse only seeks to antagonise the other side.

tories only live to serve themselves, 300+ of them doing nothing but help sink the country and blame the working class
