High Snow Levels Could Suggest Cold Winter In Northern Hemisphere

The northern hemisphere has the highest snow coverage for this time of November in at 56 years (when satellite tracking of snow coverage began)...

 

 

The amount of snow on ground in late fall/early winter is not the only factor to consider and does not fully guarantee a predicted pattern outcome but is a very strong influence

 

Because of the Alberto effect where much of the sun's rays bounce back into space, high Snow coverage is associated with faster and more harsh cooling in the winter while lower snow coverage typically results in delayed winter temperatures and often less severe ones throughout the year

 

Naturally air masses, jet streams and polar vortexes are additional factors that can throw such predictions off course as they too have strong influences in a seasons weather

Why wouldn't the winter be cold in the northern hemisphere anyway?

i’m just below the snow line on the map (in ohio) … it’s been lingering around 50° here most of the fall & now winter. feeling like these “cold winter” predictions may be a bit off.

I mean it's an average. U can't expect every spot to be cold in a colder than normal winter or for every place to be warm in a warmer than normal winter

 

Just like global warming... Colder or warmer than average may be just 1 or 2 degrees average. Plenty of room for local fluctuations

 

Also they are talking about the winter. The winter hasn't come yet
