I don't think it's bullsh*t. Humans are social creatures. And in fact I doubt we could function without social constructs. It gives u a guide on what to say, when u can say it etc and keeps us a little more civilized (on a relative basis anyway) without going all wild

Why not a third category instead? Limiting the amount of awards given is going to make it less fair and less fun.

im not properly educated on this but i feel like that would lead to women being treated unfairly at the oscars

i think there should be a third category maybe for nonbinary actors? but maybe that would lead to people identifying as nonbinary just to get an oscar idk lol it could also mean more studios hire nonbinary actors in an attempt to get an oscar which would be really good too

i'm sure theres a solution im just not sure what it is

And he made a whole fuss about them snubbing him from the main categories. If Kesha had won, she would’ve been grateful and it would’ve been a special moment. But instead the man child won.

Only acting categories are gender-based. The Academy Awards exist for over 90 years now, and only three women have won Best Directing.  It took 90 years for a female cinematographer (Rachel Morrison) to be even nominated. Going gender-neutral would only make it more difficult for women to win in another category. You would make a huge change to accomodate a tiny number of people, and would end up getting in the way of a huge one. It would be smarter to increase the number of nominees in each acting category (as the Oscars aren't divided by movie genre, the number of actors nominated is way smaller when compared to other awards) and nominate people based on the their choice (actor or actress).

Personally speaking, I don’t think these two categories should be consolidated into one, but I agree the gendered terms to describe them should one day be able to be removed.

Eventually, I think it’d be useful for everyone to come up with terms that could differentiate between different genders/gender identities that are themselves inclusive terms. At the moment, to my knowledge, no such words or terms exist but here’s to hoping.
