I feel like illustration and photography are most prone to the phenomena where a lot of people feel almost entitled to being able to help themselves and use the work for their own gain without permission, so in view of that, I'm here for this - let them learn the hard way, I say

Well, technically his work is illegal and was done without asking, so it's a little rich from him to act that way in this instance. You can't have it all, Banksy.

There's street art and then there's outright theft. He's having his work stolen and used for profit, legally he's in the right here.

The way I read it, he's not asking anyone to shoplift. He's just saying, if you're going to shoplift anyway, consider GUESS.

Actually I've read about it and legally, since Banksy's anonymous and his medium is street art, it seems Guess did nothing wrong. Is it morally dubious, certainly, but then again so is Banksy's line of work.

Even though I love his art and the fact he sheds light on important issues, technically, it seems he has nothing to say here. Also his reaction sits weirdly with me and the idea I had of him: you can call out a company, but that's another level of butt hurt if you ask me. Suggesting shoplifting makes it about money, and it seems strange to be intrinsically out of the system but still want to profit off of the system's money and protection, idk.

Interesting. I've seen a lot of copies of his works and prints of it for sale at various shops over the years.

I do wonder about their name. I'm sure they cannot just use that as well? It's on the shop window and probably on the labels. 

Even if legal, it's a pretty lame move for a big brand that can afford to actually collab with artists.
