I always found that inacurate in many cases. Women technically have the same rights as men in the music industry by law... So the issue isn't a matter of rights per say, they are there already. It's social prejudice and double standards that ur fighting because it causes abuse or mistreatment in some way I think "rights" is said in a more generalised way and what's being referred to is more a right to be respected, especially when it comes to your artistic vision. Female artists are, for the most part, afforded less artistic freedom than their male counterparts. Most of the time when albums get delayed because the lead single isn't taking off, it's a woman's album. Plenty of females have reported that they left their labels because they were being put into a box too much and told to make music that sold as opposed to what was in their heart. In contrast, I've noticed male artists be allowed to be experimental, even early in their careers and their albums tend to get released when they're ready. It also seems that a team of hit writers are employed to 'help' a female songwriter who's struggling to get a hit but male songwriters seem to be left to their own devices, for better or worse. I think what Rita's referring to here is the women who had the guts to have a sexual image at a time when overt sexuality especially from females was considered a big no-no and to be a POC in charge of their career when racism wasn't highlighted as a problem in the industry like it is now. But saying she takes "constant-inspiration" what exactly she meant by that? Music style? Breaking boundaries? Like she has her idols but I can't see that influence in her music, she does really safe music with light lyrics that often relates to society problems but doesn't go anywhere. It's social prejudice and double standards that ur fighting because it causes abuse or mistreatment in some way I find with LGBTQ sometimes it's the same thing. Sometimes in some contexts it's a matter of rights because the law in many jurisdictions literally tamples on their rights But very often in other contexts it's not about rights, it's social prejudice and people still use the term "fight for our rights"... I dunno I've always thought that and at the end of the day it's just semantics and terminology so not the most important but I find it odd cuz it's so inacurate Why does refusing to wear a mask or get vaccinated always get referred to as “fighting for our rights”? It’s just a comment thrown around to get attention of other fanbases. “oh I’ll mention Lady Gaga as a source of inspiration to appeal to her fans!”
