Now the delimination line runs, for a considerabile extend, across the Dnieper. The Dnieper is a massive river and acts as a very significant natural barrier. So one could conclude it will harder for Ukraine to retake the portion of Kherson south of the river and Crimea than it would be to retake an area like Zaporizhzhia - which taken, would separate the Russian holdings in the east from Crimea.

And in this state Russian territories look even more awkardly long and thin...

The land corridor has an unnatural shape.

This is a great development.

Out of curiosity why did Russia evacuate from Kherson again?

It was becoming too hard to hold the territory and they feared another fiasco like the one in Kharkiv, when they were forced to leave unprepared. This time around the withdrawal was better-organized and didn't leave behind too much equipment and valuable stuff.
