It's the new Hold My Hand. A hyped soundtrack ballad from a major artist that everyone involved talks about like it is so epic and emotional and then when you hear it you just shrug and never listen to it again. And people leaving the theater will barely notice it over the credits.

Basically this. LMU is mild but to call it Yummy 2.0 is wild and too much 

Rihanna needs to get her s*** to together and give the gays everything they want though. The Lukewarm Me Up and Johnny Depp fiasco seems to have cut the hype down to a certain degree.

Yummy is awful, I’d call it far from a “decent pop song”. LMU isn’t groundbreaking, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be. The problem is that because this is Rihanna’s “big comeback” to music, people inevitably had their expectations too high for what they wanted. Like, is it even among Rihanna’s best ballads? No. But I think the hate the song’s received is disproportionate to the song itself.
