Trump is very happy that Twitter is now in so-called "sane hands"

Define dangerous speech because we live in a world where we throw words around so easily without reasonable explanations. Somebody disagrees with a black person on one take they have and they are immediately called racist without explanations and portrayed a certain way. And that’s the problem, we manipulate narratives and immediately block people out. And the left is VERY guilty of calling people names when somebody simply disagrees on something. ( I am neither left or right, in case you wanna immediately assume I am the right because I criticize the left ) Yes, you should let people say what is on their mind so you know it exists and it exists with THEM. You go after them through arguments and in turn change the minds of their potential followers and make an example out of them. We believe the whole world is on social media. It is NOT. You block them on an app and they go talk in person. Did Hitler use twitter? No, and his bad ideologies still got around. Did Trump’s supporters go away just because he isn’t on twitter? NO! You bring those ideas to light and kill them before they grow.

Dangerous would be something like most recently Kanye's anti-semitic statements, Do you really think he should have been allowed to continue on his rant against Jewish people? You 'Kill them before they grow' by not allowing a hurtful message to spread not hoping they'll suddenly change.

In a perfect world It'd be nice if you could talk reason to people online and change their beliefs but that's not the world we live in. Just look at Alex Jones he thrived spreading hate online for years growing a following even though he never had a leg to stand on during discourse, It wasn't until he was deplatformed that he lost most his influence.

Saying you'll be labelled racist for disagreeing with a black person is hyperbolic, nobody seriously thinks like this. and if they do that's not someone you should base your entire opinion around.

You literally focused on just the far right changing their beliefs. Therefore proving my point, you are not open minded to accept that you can also be in the wrong, you expect only others to change to what you believe because you for sure know that the left is ALWAYS right or goes the right way about things.

because the far right is arguably way more dangerous, has been a reality before and still is a reality in a lot of places. it's been proven to be awful.

far left ideology remains unrealistic and very out of reach, can you name some places where the far left are dominant?

mother, what must i do?

Alex Jones still has supporters and will continue to do so, same with Kanye. The problem is not solved even though we removed them from one space. Also, yes there are people like that, simply go on twitter and look for yourself, you simply cannot disagree on anything without being ostracized by some that never get called out on their behavior by the community they claim to support. This is also then being used against the whole community by the other party. We should call out for these changes ourselves before the others see it. It creates weakness.

What the alternative? Seriously? Because letting them continue on their tirades is probably the worst idea.

It's not about getting rid of their supporters, It's about making sure they can't continue to gain more. You can still combat their ideology after the fact.

@Healed My Heart allow me to give just 2 more examples before we end this conversation. The state of California passed a law that allows people who are under the age of 24 to have s*xual activities with people as young as 14 years old, and masked it as being supportive of LGBT+ youth. Also California passed a law that allows children, some as young as 12 to not need their parents permission to subscribe to hormonal therapy or s*x change procedures. Children cannot get tattoos but they can change their s*x without their parents approval? I do not care on what political spectrum you are, if those 2 examples don’t repulse you, you are very far off. I am in no way shape or form against transgender people, never was, never will be. But THIS is an abuse on the community. One that if you call out you are labeled as a transphobe. I said this before, our communities are being hijacked to push different agendas. This is what I mean by being overly compassionate to the point where critical thinking is GONE. This is what I mean by wanting to be on the right side of history so you listen to ANYTHING a minority says. This is what I mean by stepping back to see that maybe your party can also be in the wrong and the other in the right. Stop thinking if people as just good or bad and see them as well rounded entities that can hold BOTH right and wrong beliefs at the same time.  Have a nice day.

I'm only replying because I don't want you to use me as an example of not being open to discussion. But, you're continuing to project onto me. Not once have I said liberal views are infallible. You are the one that said that's what I believe. I have said only that hate speech and blatant disinformation that threatens our society should not have a platform.

@Healed My Heart

Ignore this user above they think that writing long passages and being confrontational equates to them speaking the truth. That’s the danger we have to tackle sadly.

I’m going to respond to all of you in one comment because it is easier.
You completely missed my point, I did say that some of these ideas are going to be dangerous but they have to be brought to light so they can be proven to be exactly that. I stand by what I said, we cannot rid ourselves of people as much as we try and we can only get rid of bad ideologies by changing minds through conversations. Something we do not promote! Sorry, but everybody is simply pushing their belief system on the other and asks them to either accept it or leave. Regardless of a company being public or not, let’s not act ignorant, few people control this entire world. What they believe in is how they regulate their ‘private’ platforms, and that is a danger to democracy!!! While we are running around like chickens with our heads cut off we miss that very point. It’s easy to think you are free because everything seems ‘private’ but in reality you are not because the same people own everything. Any idea, no matter how many times we have to do it, needs to be put to sleep if untrue and dangerous. People grow in their ignorance if you just cast them aside, and the consequences you talk about don’t actually exist because we don’t do ANYTHING real to stop those ideas from existing. We just shut them up on an app, yet they are still out there spreading their beliefs. And that is the truth.

Republicans don't deserve freedom of speech.

I don’t like Trump, however, freedom of speech is important. Silencing people does not solve any problem, pushing them to the side does nothing but send them into the shadows where they join forces and come back swinging. This is a tale as old as time. Every single idea, no matter how horrific it is needs to be brought to the table where it is in PLAIN SIGHT and where it can be put to death with critical thinking, reasoning, facts, compassion and so on.

Are you arguing for absolute freedom of speech ? I think you are, and if so I disagree  with you. Supposing I start arguing on twitter that red-haired people are a danger to the human race and should be exterminated. Then I gain a following and someone murders a red-haired person. Should I have been shut down ? Yes, I think so, because imo my idea was dangerous bs. Would you disagree that that idea should have been shut down ? If so, on what basis would you disagree ? What merit would you see in allowing me to promote that idea ? If you agree that I should have been shut down, then you are accepting the principle that freedom of speech is not absolute.

Let's talk about Trump. The 2020 election took place on Tuesday the 3rd of Nov. On Thursday the 5th, when it became clear that the vote was going against him, Trump stood up and stated on live tv that the election was being stolen. He could have said that he had serious concerns about the conduct of the election and that he intended to pursue those concerns through the courts, but he didn't say that. Imo he shouldn't have been allowed to say what he said. I think it should have been illegal for him, given the huge influence that a sitting President has, to say what he said, and he should have left that room in handcuffs. But it wasn't illegal, he was free to say what he said and to repeat it constantly for the next two months. As a result, there was a riot in Washington on the 6th of January, people died and America's electoral system and system of government is now at risk. America had problems anyway, but imo they were greatly worsened by the fact that Donald Trump was allowed to say what he said.

Agree 100% ,he should have ramifications for what he said plus what he did on JAN 6 and stealing all those classified documents and trying to overturn the most secure election . Mail in voting has been around for 20+ years and is super secure and is also backed up by PAPER ballots. He thinks machines are connected to the internet when its federal law they cannot be! He is a grown up who's never suffered having to pay for it. IMO. If any other citizen stole those docs theyd be in jail no bail nothing. They are treating him with kid gloves. :saladga:

Unfortunately, Australian politics aren't much better:

The bar is in hell when it comes to far-right politics.

EDIT: Actually, after the recent Australian election things might not be as bad in a few years.
