Apple Slows Production on 14 Plus, Will Focus On 14 Pro & Pro Max

Apple Inc (AAPL.O) is cutting back production of iPhone 14 Plus and is increasing the output of the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro due to lukewarm demand for the mid-range model, market research firm TrendForce said Tuesday.

The share of more expensive iPhone 14 Pro series has increased to 60% of the total output from the initially planned 50%, and it could rise to 65% in the future, the report said.

Apple's focus on high-end models may help it counter the softness in smartphone sales. In the thick of the chip crisis, Apple's Pro and Pro Max premium tier of devices, which have been strong sellers, helped the company push margins higher.

The TrendForce report said that rising U.S. interest rates could crimp consumer spending, undermining the demand for iPhones in the first quarter of 2023. This could lead to a 14% year-on-year drop in production to 52 million units.

Analysts have in the past said iPhone 14's Pro and Pro Max versions were selling at a brisk pace, although demand for the base model, typically Apple's best seller, has been underwhelming.

Looks like people chose to splurge when it comes to buying an iPhone these days. Even after Apple gave them cheaper options. They decided to stop producing the mini series, (only lasted for 12 & 13), also because of low sales.  :oprah:

Will the mid range aka the regular series will also gone in future releases? Will they only gonna sell the premiums in the future responding to the market that chooses that more? :oprah:

Thoughts?

They do this on purpose. The cheaper model (regular 14) is meant to feel like the inferior device and not much different from the previous generation. This causes buyers to lean towards the more expensive pro models.

I wish they would just stop releasing phones when they don’t need to honestly. I upgraded from the 13 pro to 14 pro max and the only reason I didn’t return it was because I love the size. There’s literally no difference otherwise. The dynamic island and camera improvements are not enough

I think the regular, pro, max idea is stupid.

Just give me 1 phone wit 2 different screen sizes and everything is the same including updated tech.

The "cheap" 14 is garbage, they didn't even upgrade it to the new A16.. it's using the iphone 13 A15

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Idk but I feel that now they just focus on squeezing as much money as they can instead of creating an innovate new iphone. I feel that if steve jobs hadnt died new iphones would come out every 2-3 years with worth-it upgrades, not the same phone with only a different chip and "amazing, wonderful new features" as they like to promote it :laughga:

I’ve got the 11 Pro Max and even though I want to upgrade I’m hesitant because the 14 just doesn’t seem like it’s worth it. I really hope a new competitor comes along with an innovative design that changes the industry and makes it better for the consumer.

Mess. I upgraded to iPhone 14 from a 7 and obviously very happy with the change. I was thinking of getting a 12 or 13 because I'm not really looking for the latest phone in the market but my friend convinced me to just wait a couple of weeks for the 14 and I liked that it's 6 GB RAM, a jump from the 4 GB of the previous ones. I didn't get the Pro because it's a big jump on the price and didn't really see the need of the mega camera stuff and Dynamic Island but not surprised they do this on purpose with the chip and all. Of course they want to push customers to get the Pro models instead of the regular versions.

Those clowns complain Apple products are too expensive and then go buy the most expensive versions of their products, idgi

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I’m more than happy enough with my 12… I haven’t really seen anything that would convince me to change to any other phone :oprah: And that’s not dissing Apple, Android or anyone, the screen, cameras, battery etc are all more than good enough for me so I just don’t see the need.  Will run this one into the ground.

microSD is out on almost all high-end phones these days. You can get an iPhone with 1TB of storage, you might as well stream from the cloud if you have more than that.

They need to just make one iPhone next year. No more pro and regular version, it no longer makes sense.

OH and they need to stop using heavy stainless steel on the pros just because it "feels premium" - they're giving us arthritis.

The problem is that Apple has no "mid-range" or "low-range" prices. Their marketing seems to implay that they're a company for everbody, and that everybody can afford an iPhone, but that's not the truth.

Their "low-end" tier starts at 900 bucks. If you have that kind of disposable income already, you are not gonna buy the "cheap" one, you're gonna buy the one with all the bells and whistles for 1300 bucks.

The reason why their low-tier and mid-tier iPhones aren't selling is because they are way too expensive and too close to the top flagship model. People are literally waiting like hyenas for the iPhone 12 price to finally lower instead.
