- if "i'm not like other girls" had a theme song.

- super pick me energy.

- a very very very dated perspective on "feminism" (if you could even call it that).

- the cherry on top is that she uses the video to make fun of women who suffer from ED + bullies a victim of revenge p*rn,

Jk :teehee:

I think Katy's Ur So Gay was a problematic one and not the actual song but the collab she did with M*gos knowing their homophobe and misogine coments was ver problematic too, specially on her Gay fans, something similar but not more mediatic than Gagas collab with R. K*lly.

Can we finally say that Vogue is cultural appropriation and exploiting the ballroom culture, to the point that the majority of people believes that Madonna invented it. she may made it popular but the cost is that the people who lived the ballroom culture and created this big gay movement in the POC community are barely receiving any credit. also all the celebrities that she's listing in the song are white.
Even the Pose episode about the song was written from a white person point of view and idolize the song, not one of the characters criticized the song.

Madonna never claimed to originate the music and the dance itself; on the contrary she always credited them. She invited the dancers from the actual ballroom scene who introduced her to vogueing and gave them a platform to perform their art to greater masses via her music videos and tours. She namedropped Hollywood Golden Age stars which happened to be mostly white; because people vogueing imitate the extravagant and flamboyant poses they did in magazines. The name Vogue, comes from the magazine, the poses in the ballroom  scene were reminiscent of how glamour models and celebrities used to pose in the magazine.

This. I actually sort of disagreed with Madonna's latest post, although it wasn't entirely wrong (the one where she said she paved the way, while correct, made it seem like she was the main figure paving the way for girlies like Cardi and not others like Grace Jones, Missy, Lil Kim, etc).

But while Madonna can be arrogant and flawed, she's always been very open about the origins of vogue-ing, etc.

While I love Gwen, "Harajuku Girls" and the lines about the Harajuku Girls in "Rich Girl" and "What You Waiting For?" are problematic, even though they're all fabulous songs.

yep the entire treatment of the Harajuku Girls as Gwen’s accesories was very questionable in hindsight

I loved it so much back then and thought the Japanese fashion was so cute and the girls looked beautiful :smh:  I didn't know! Now I've got this dumb nostalgia for it even though it was problematique

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Jesus Christ, I haven't heard that song for over a decade and just looked up the lyrics. That's a serious clunker.

That’s not what it means lmaoo.

Pumped up kicks is a play on the Reebok Pumps that were like 170 bucks when they came out and is basically saying he’s either going for the rich kids that bullied him, pumping up their kicks with bullets, or a type of ironic line about how the shoes were a status symbol and they’re gonna need their pumped up kicks to run from the bullets.

it’s a good and interesting use of a single item to kinda talk about how most of these people who are shooters are kinda created and/or not even cared about to even see the warning signs.

Honey, you said the same thing I said lol. The song's about murdering everyone with the cool Reebok Pump shoes on.

I knew the backstory behind the song. But thanks for making yourself feel smart by correcting me for no reason lol.

My old cat is a tough man, but i cant deny the way he bites my hand and he stabs me, he grabs me by my heart <3
