Also, her fans are known to manipulate streaming numbers by using different accounts on streaming services. Yes, she is huge. Yes, she is a good songwriter. Yes, she and her team are marketing geniuses. Yes, she is selling out stadiums. But, in my opinion, her fan base is making her that huge, her cultural impact is little. Did she released something groundbreaking or iconic? Folklore and Evenmore are good, but kinda snoozefest. Let’s say that an average fan bought at least 3-4 copies, that equals to 375.000-500.000 copies. Still that impressive? If we scaled down every other artists numbers with this same reasoning we’d see many many pitiful numbers. So yes, Taylor would still be very impressive. StarstruckIllusion 51,016
I mean there’s actually. actually 20 versions of this album at least. It’s not like there’s 1.3 million who bought it. It’s obv like 500k people who bought 1-4 editions lol. It’s wow, but not that impressive imo
LateToCult 40,206
And when the tour numbers come out what will they say? That her fans bought multiple tickets at top dollar to make sure the stadiums aren’t empty?

Pretty sure most of us fans bought it just once. Like me. Bought the vinyl and streamed it a few times. Just like the average consumer. Sure, she has die hard fans that’ll drop a couple hundred to collect multiple copies but there’s not 500k people doing that. Regardless of how she’s doing it, she’s the ONLY artist pulling those numbers and it’s impressive - no one can take away that success from her. It’s wow, but not that impressive imo You can make as many versions of your album as you want but if people don’t buy them then what good does it do? A subset of fans were able to buy multiple versions. I don’t know if you’ve noticed that we’re approaching a recession at the moment, people don’t have $200 of disposable incoming to be devoting to buying multiple vinyls and CDs of one album. Only die hards are able to spend that money. That is not enough people to sell 1.5 million copies opening week. And as for streaming, one does not hit these streaming metrics on their own fanbase alone. Spotify filters streams for their official reporting which means spam streams, streams from different accounts but under the same IP address, and streams under different accounts but same payment plans are not counted as unique streams. That would mean that it is not possible for her fans to be the only ones pushing this album. People love to pretend that the GP doesn’t care about her as if she hasn’t been one of the most discussed and consumed artists of the 21st century. Was she selling 1m copies of Speak Now, Red, and 1989 because her fans were spam streaming? Not possible. Was she selling a million because her whole fanbase was buying multiple versions? Only standard and deluxe versions existed. She has always been a sales force because she has ALWAYS had GP interest, and folklore and evermore only made that GP interest sky rocket because when folklore came out in a sea of nothing, she was the only thing people in quarantine had to discuss and consume. A tour is so different, locals will eat her up on tour. but having so many different versions of this album definitely helped her and ppl can sit her and say she “worked hard” for these numbers all they want but it doesn’t negate the fact she still quite literally kept releasing different versions to up the sales (we could see this tactic w the pre order numbers and headlines) Fans are fans. They will eat up all kinds of merch. Especially twitter Stan’s. Did she buy these opening numbers no but did she make sure she had enough pre orders to do so? Absolutely. It’s simply marketing. However at the end of the day, it’s cheating for the sake of headlines lol. nepotism babies being nepotism babiesss

They are a real life measure of how in-demand an artist is. She pulled in over 2.8 million people on her last tour. Most of them from the US (where she gets these astronomical numbers). Show me another contemporary artist that’s pulling 2 million people in the US alone in LESS than a year? Even without the padding she’ll get from a small number of fans buying all the versions Midnights would still do large numbers. It’s impossible for someone to get the streaming numbers she’s getting and the attendance numbers she’s getting and not have an equally impressive number of albums being sold. It’s not just fans. Taylor-mania consistently sweeps the country when she drops a project. It’s not multiple versions of a vinyl doing it. It’s interest in her. Plain and simple. Also EVRYONE is listening to this album at least once to hear what all the fuss is about. This id definitely not her fans manipulating charts and streams.
