I don't know what's wrong with me. I really wish her the best, but I don't understand the hype. It really is a good pop album, but It can be recorded by anyone. But if someone else had recorded it, it won't get 90 on metacritic and record streaming numbers.

There’s nothing to understand really. She’s a marketing genius. Everything that happened in her life she used as a marketing tool and she is EXTREMELY passionate about her work even after 15 years..

Mind you, I’m a huge Taylor fan so take this with a little bias in mind. But why I love her is because her writing style and her vocal delivery really connects with me in terms of the complex emotions she describes. My hypothesis is that Taylor is popular with a certain group because she creates great but really relatable content. Not that other artists don’t, but there’s something in her writing and delivery that is cathartic for me to hear. My brand of anxiety seems to be sort of close to hers.
I know you didn’t ask, but I figured I’d share anyway for friendly conversation’s sake!

i wish i understood the hype 

with beyonce her new work isnt for me but i know shes exceptionally gifted vocally and an amazing performer. 

taylor i dont see it, i listened to the album and its boring AF i really tried but i cant get into it lol ppl say her writing is unparalled but she has cowriters and its not like shes writing it completely alone.......

i genuinely think we have to remind ourselves that we feel it's formulaic or even "boring" because she simply has mastered catchy pop music and hooks to a degree where it feels normal. but it isn't normal and it isn't boring, it's taylor swift. she writes melodies and hooks like no one else. i think so many artists and writers wish they could have an inch of her pop music magic touch. including me!

 Nothing is wrong with you, folk like different stuff. Everyone makes fun of me for loving Björk but listening to her albums makes me the happiest. So do whatever is good for you. I’m just happy folk are enjoying new music. The world is so tough now, a little escape with music is always good.

That’s ok. Both points are valid. You don’t Have to listen to the new album. I’m a huge Taylor fan and I’m having a hard time with the new album. But it makes me happy folk are enjoying the new album. The world is so tough right now, music makes the people come together.

Her breaking these records over and over is so satisfying to watch.

I feel like in the beginning of her career, and even more with later events (2016 kim/kanye + scooter situation), she had an uphill battle of being seen as a musician/artist by her peers (and even by the general public). Now she outnumbers everyone with ease.

On top of that, you can tell she was born to write music and lives/breathes it.

I don’t think anyone else could sing this album because the songs are so personal to her. Fans connect so deeply because reading the lyrics is like a treasure trove of little details, references, pieces to a puzzle, etc. that even casual fans likely won’t even notice the significance of. It’s easy to get invested when she pours so much detail into everything she does, it makes being a fan super fun.

The only ones I can think of are Madonna and MJ and their success was undeniable even after 15 years
