Very briefly at a drive-in as a teen. No-one tipped. I quit. Pathetic pay rate.

And as costumer, you do the same to these people, knowing how shxtty of a job it is already. Why is that? Is it entitlement?

There are lots of shitty jobs in this world, trying getting yelled at in a customer service call center for someone else's mistakes without ever getting a single tip.

The people that choose these jobs must like it. I would suggest a higher minimum  base rate to be required for all restaurants and then tips can just be bonuses. But I doubt that will happen.

Time is money, mistakes are expensive. Somebody ends up paying for it. If someone can't get an order right and walk it to the correct table, maybe it's the wrong job for that person. I'm not their entire paycheck, usually just one table out of many. Screw up my table no tip, hopefully they did the others correctly.

I recently went out to eat before seeing Lil Nas X.

My sister and I got our food just fine but the server brought my grandma the wrong sandwich. We sent it back.

Then she brought food meant for another table, we laughed it off and sent it to the right one.

Then she brought the right sandwich but it had the dressing stuff on it that my grandma asked to be left off. It was sent back too.

Finally, we get the right sandwich. The server apologized, we told her no worries.

We enjoyed our meals, I tipped 30% on a nearly $60 tab, and we moved on with our day.

Mistakes happen. You never know when it's someone's first day or they've got their mind somewhere else because of something personal. You should never allow yourself to be one more negative part of their day to think about when they get home. It's a hard enough job as it is without having rude customers who either raise hell or don't tip because of little mistakes.

It’s so funny to me that James Corden was probably shown the pop crave tweet by his team and he undoubtedly took a look at the comments and saw **** like “Cardi tanked” and “Nicki husband banned from schools” :air:

What a repulsive, unempathetic and unkind thing to say. I hope people give you more grace than you’re willing to give.

I understand what you're trying to say. You just don't want your time to be wasted. I don't blame you, especially with the experience you've had. You as a customer should have a decent experience and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

However, sometimes being a server is the only job they can nail. It's better than sleeping on the sidewalk, right? I'm sure there's a lot of things they abhor about their job, but they keep grinding to survive in this world. Unfortunately, that's how it is.

It really is true that people make mistakes, though. I wouldn't judge the server off of one day alone unless they are regularly reckless. They could be disoriented or having a terrible day. I don'twant to convince you to tip. Just at least take a moment to think about how that worker could've been feeling that day. That's all.
