Dojo 19,823
Transgender women, who were born male, are still required to sign up for the Selective Service in the event of a military draft. The policy, which has already been in effect for some time, gained new attention after the Selective Service System issued a reminder for men between the ages of 18 and 25 to register for the service. "Parents, if your son is an only son and the last male in your family to carry the family name, he is still required to register with SSS," the SSS said in a now-viral tweet sent on Friday. The Biden administration issued a statement in September that said it supports "the registration requirement for all citizens, which further ensures a military selective system that is fair and just.” https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/trans-women-born-male-military-draft

FfFfFfFF 58,355
This is unfair because everybody should be drafted: males and females.

Mandatory drafting is horrific. The fact that people may be forced to leave their homes and risk their lives IS barbaric. America is so proud to be a hugely patriotic country but patriotism shouldn't mean having to die for your country because a law says so. That's not what I said, I asked you not to be one

Though to be absolutely clear-> no pregnant women or with kids dependent on them.

Do you not think it would be more fair though to say that minimum 1 person from every household with 2 or more people aged 18 or over (maybe more than one in cases of a significantly large household) should be drafted. Then families could choose. There are some families that have working Mothers and stay-at-home Fathers. In that case the Father would be the one to want to stay home as children would be more dependent on him daily as opposed to the Mother. There are more fair ways to draft but just saying 'everybody eligible' isn't the right way. That's not what I said, I asked you not to be one

I'm sorry but if I could be drafted at the same rate as ONE person out of a household of 3-4 eligible I'd be upset. I can understand a cap of 1 person out of 2 eligible to make sure that one adult could stay with their family, but I'm not down to be drafted  with only Tyler, because Martha and Tyler has a family of 3 grown kids in their house. And it'd be so easy to cheat that system/stack it against the poor as well. They should just get rid of the draft, especially with the military enrollment rate we have. But if we're gonna have a selective service, make everybody sign up for it.

It's good to see things from different angles. The draft needs to go really. But I understand why they won't do that. People are less likely to sign up nowadays. There are more fair ways to draft but just saying 'everybody eligible' isn't the right way. This won't work because it requires families themselves to find a sacrificial lamb. Just imagine the discussions at the dinner table and the drama afterwards.  People will not comply and it end up mandatory. Also, what is a ''family''? What if somebody is celibate? There are families with 10 people and families with 2. If based on the size of your family you are excepted, that is also not fair. What would be fair is to abolish the draft, but no society will want to accept it.
