Dennis 8,391
Just this morning, Putin decided to unleash a new campaign of terror against civilians across Ukraine, likely as a response to his streak of defeats/humiliations lately. Just this morning, 75 missiles and 48 Kamikaze drones were used to attack multiple ukrainian cities. And yet to this day, not a single western air defense system is operating in Ukraine. OMF 3,673
What is the “West” or rest of the world supposed to do though? They support them where they can but it’s already very dangerous and having a full blown WW3 or worse is NOT helping Ukraine or anyone else. It’s a horrible situation and this won’t end here. It’s a crap situation maybe we start with giving them air defenses quickly, not in years or months, but now. How is this gonna start WW3? You're playing into putin hands if you're going to be intimidated into not helping people who are being bombed on a daily basis.

Leaving aside the moral issues (whether one should help a country that's under an imperialist invasion)...from a cold, hard, non emotional point of view...supplying more heavy weapons/air defense could help because if Putin succeeds in taking over Ukraine he very likely will move on a NATO country next (he's written insane screeds about how Lithuania doesn't have the right to exist, among others). And if he moves on a NATO country, than WW3 is going to happen no matter what. It's a horrible situation with no clear right moral answers, but I do think giving Ukraine as many heavy weapons as possible is the best solution. There’s a lot of (very valid) criticism of Europe for not preventing the war when they could have, but they did not create it. Putin did.

This is incredibly insensitive, to say such a thing in such a thread at this time. Read the room seriously. If you're going to justify Putin's aggression and claim he's provoked by the West or whatever, this is not the right thread to do it. I just find it amazing how people still find the audacity to justify this aggression after all we've seen. Evil is really alive and well.

What would have happened if they had let Hitler go free? Have you ever thought about it? Surely not, you live very well inside the bubble, right? But don't worry, you are the one who has to worry the least, your country is neither from the EU nor from NATO. So you can continue living your best life. You talk as if you have done something or your country has done something to help stop the conflict.
LilyLark 10,213
The tweet's not embedding, but there's pics of a freaking kindergarten that was bombed. Luckily it doesn't seem like students were in it...but you can see the damage to the playground, etc. Christ....Russia is just randomly bombing civilian targets and infrastructure. Blatant, obvious war crimes. Wars are always disgusting, and war crimes sadly and often occur, but the amount of war crimes in this case is shocking. People often bring up US and Iraq, as that was an illegal imperialist invasion (one could argue, even if one disagrees, that the US had a right to invade Afghanistan...there's not such argument for Iraq) with a lot of death. But I think this is more comparable to what the US did to Vietnam (so, so many war crimes, far more than even Iraq) or what Yeltsin (and) Putin did to Chechnya in the late 90s/early 2000s, or what Indonesia did to Timor Leste or what France did to Algeria. The extent of the war crimes is utterly shocking. And I advise y'all to stay off twitter cause the tankies are being disgusting (which is ironic, as tankies claim to be anti imperialist, but Putin's doing textbook imperialism right now). Thing is though, most western countries and others have supported Ukraine 100% and not only have provided weapons, ammunition and supplies they also lost their gas supply and facing freezing winters in Europe, inflation has hit record highs around the world and this is due to countries sticking to what is right. Sadly as we have seen time and time again further “interference” can lead to even worse escalations and even lack of long term solutions. It’s nightmare and breaks my heart, not just for Ukraine but for every nation that is going through such hells either from war or famine. Globally we are still at the mercy of so much evil and can’t seem to figure out how to stop this from happening again and again

My ENTIRE family is in the EU My tiny country had been invaded and divided in half. I grew up with war sirens each year on the anniversary. We were also all affected by the devastating effects of Chernobyl and the fear of further nuclear accidents or wars. And my hometown has a massive number of both Ukrainian and Russian immigrants. I have nothing but empathy for them. So stop assuming and insulting

Forgive me if it offends you that a Russian clarifies what is happening in the world.
