phantasmas 10,494
Deep Fried Records, which he was signed to, is really fun. I recommend them if you like house and electro.

I also wish she worked with him again. Personally (and I am not here to bash Gaga) I feel BTW was the last project where I could really resonate with her although I love chromatica and I think she was able to tap into that similar energy again with it. I cant stop thinking that weed affected her creativity and mental health big time and it really can be heard in her music and lyrics. Its said because you can see it on her face and posture around Joanne era and ARTPOP that something is a bit off. She was so bold with her imagery and it was very dark in the fame monster born this way era but I always felt she embraced it and was able to process it through art. I think at some point she got scared a little bit of her own darkness. Anyway, I really wish she would work with some of the older producers again, I dont think she constantly needs to reinvent herself or do new stuff. Maybe this is totally off topic but I thought I would share my point of view. I feel like the Fame perfume commercial is a very clear statement of how afraid she was of her own darkness. You're 100% right that she was able to process her vices through art and she was able to wear them without being weighed down. At some point, and perhaps it was the over-exposure that came with the BTW era, she couldn't handle it anymore. I personally believe that you can never go back to who you were, only move forward and hope to come out better from traumatic experiences. I think Gaga is trying her best, but I don't think she has completely embraced her newly found potential. We saw how it was when it was completely raw and unfiltered (backed with a great rollout) on ASIB. If Chromatica showed me anything, it's that she is being weighed down by her newly found circle of collaborators. Her projects with Nick Knight (most recently TCB interludes) stand as a constant reminder that most of her early collaborators were a literal blessing and a match made in heaven. She lucked out very early on in her career to work with some of the best people to bring out all the essences that she embodied as a performer. If there's one thing I don't like now, it's that 'Gaga' seems to be worn like a costume rather than simply being an expression of her artistry. I think she became more aware of what was really going on, and how unhealthy her life was at the time. As she said in 5F2, she can't get to a place where she "becomes Lady Gaga again" because what is all the work she done for? I think she realised that her personal life and family were more important than fans, and after she broke her hip, it changed everything. I always took that quote as her speaking strictly on the Joanne era. She wanted a completely stripped down era free from the boldness that came with 'Gaga', and I think after the mixed reception from fans (which is highlighted in the documentary) her quote was (if anything) hinting that she was being pressured to amp it up - she simply didn't want it to reach 'Gaga' levels. That's just how I interpret it though.

I understand what you are saying however I think she was talking in general, because she was also talking about "I know we want to elevate everything, I'm trying to elevate everything" etc. so I think she means as a whole, she can't bring herself to actually become Lady Gaga again and lose Stefani. The last time she did that and fully became Lady Gaga 24/7, she broke her hip. In 5F2 she talks a lot about her past, saying that she can't go back, but she can always bring it with her. The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥
freebit 6,240
I wonder if he'll ever reappear. He's been recognized as a forebearer of hyperpop, so he might have a bit of a new built-in audience.
