Eds albums as a whole are hit or miss for me. But he makes some good songs and has a nice voice. I think the stripped back sound suits him best.

His last album has a decent amount of production to be fair (well, for an Ed album). Lots of synth bass and layering like in Overpass Grafiti.

Ever since Equals came out he's been saying "Substract?" is going to be acoustic and would come out sooner than fans expect because it was acoustic versions of previously released material, not new. I think those have always been his plans yet, no new music for this next one.

He looks so chill and humble talking to people there but some of the things he says in his interviews or social media is just :yennefer:

I actually think his plan to release the acoustic version of Equals was scrapped. He’s been teasing Subtract since as early as 2017 (Easter eggs in the Perfect music video, as well as multiple other hints and teasers) with its title being mentioned as early as 2015, it was supposed to come out in 2021 instead of Equals but he swapped them because the world was opening up after covid and he wanted to release a fun record instead of a slow sad acoustic record.

As a hardcore fan everything about this has me stoked, fans have been waiting for Subtract for years, and as much as I love the upbeat fun Ed, nothing beats him and an acoustic guitar. Also I would LOVE to see one of the small theater shows, although I’m not counting on that being a possibility, theater tickets to an artist like him would sell out in a matter of seconds lol.
