Canada Job Vacancies Hit All Time Record... Wages Still Stagnate

Canada's job openings last quarter reached almost 1 million (997,000) an all time record

 

Despite a tight labor market wages only rose 4.1% even tho inflation reached 7.5%

 

One common problem is that inflation is being driven largely by a shortage of goods and materials not just consumer demand meaning inflation is hurting many businesses as much as it's hurting consumers making it difficult for some businesses especially small and medium sized businesses to offer higher pay to compete for labor

 

Larger businesses have been able to compete for labor with higher wages more easily as they have been able to withstand inflation and raise prices of their products more easily than their mom and pop independent counterparts

My job hunt this last time (I found a new job 1.5 months ago) was literally the most unique job hunting experience I ever had vs past times I looked for work

 

There was SOOOO many opening everywhere and so many businesses that I didn't even apply for reach out to me after I posted my resume

 

But finding something good among so many openings wage wise and hours wise was so difficult despite so many openings

 

Only about 1 in 5 Jobs posted I'd say we're good and most did not get back to me. I think despite labor shortage the best jobs still attracted a lot of attention and it was competitive to try to land one of the good ones

Almost all regular (either all non post secondary degree jobs or jobs requiring skilled trades) pay like $22/h or less (given rise of USD lately that's like $17 USD)

 

I was making $27 in my last job and I tried so hard not to go below $23/h...

 

I had to settle for $22.59  (but there's profit sharing so the bonuses should make it above $23 but I don't qualify for profit sharing the first year )

U can't compare a developing Country tho... Of course the standards will be different

 

The point is, it's so unprecedented for wages to go up slower than inflation during a labour shortage

Exactly the same is happening in the U.K. right now too.  Incredible employment levels but wages are stuck

That is assuming Philippines is developing. Its getting worse since 2018. Yes, the culture is developing it is becoming diverse. Tech is also advancing. But not the economy, not the system, not the govt.

Wages never go up here, prices do.

You'll be surprised how an average family can get by everyday. Gov't standard for monthly expenses for a family of 5 is P10,000 (est $175). That will do if you eat sardines everyday, even that you'll be out of budget in 10days. That's just food. Electricity, internet, water, and other expenses are not included.

 

Anywayy before it gets too political, I really wanted to experience living and working on other countries not just locally. Canada seems to be holding out well despite inflation.

Where did you post your resume? I am looking for a job currently (in Canada). I have been out of work for months and despite the "good" job market in terms of vacancies, I cannot find a job that pays enough that will accept me yet. I just got a rejection today for a job I have been interviewing for the past month

Any tips at all would be much appreciated. Right now I use LinkedIn, Glassdoor and sometimes Indeed for searching. Maybe I should be doing more.

I always used Indeed

 

And that's what I was saying. Finding "a job" is not hard. Finding a GOOD job or what u want, that's a different story
