FfFfFfFF 58,058 Posted September 19, 2022 Share Posted September 19, 2022 The war in Ukraine continued on 19 September with battles in the Lyman area, Donetsk and Kherson. The big news of today is that Ukraine continued to consolidate its positions east of the Oskil river and more importantly, that the Ukrainian flag was erected in Yarova - settlement north of the Siversky Donetsk river and close to the city of Lyman. After the news that Ukraine retook Bilohorivka, rumors that Lysychansk is again under Ukrainian control started to spread. However, by now they were likely proven to have been false. Further south, the Russians continue to push in the direction of Bakhmut, but the extend of their gains is uncertain as both sides contradict each other. Heavy battles are also taking place around Donetsk city for the settlements of Avdiivka, Mariinka, Pisky - an active warzone for months on end. According to Russian sources, the Russians slightly improved their positions along the Inhulets river in Kherson. However, according to ISW, the Russians are already prepating withdrawal routes toward the eastern banks of the Dnieper in case the Ukrainians close in in retaking the province. Ukraine after this war will become a juggernaut of a state. Poland and Ukraine hopefully developing will help lift all of Eastern Europe. So far the power centers are almost all in the West (UK, France, Germany) but I think Poland's consistent economic rise and hopefully Ukraine's full out transformation post war will benefit the entire Eastern European region. Its too early to make predictions in my opinion but Russia has made a poor showing of things so far. Geopolitically Poland emerged as a new Europan power in many ways, and the Polish-Ukrainian alliance hols a lot of geopolitical significance, but if it wasn't for Western assistance Ukraine would have collapsed. The country's economy almost ceased to exist (it only got better in late summer with the first grain shipments). Ukraine was already one of the poorest countries in Europe, its economy will have the scars of the war for many, many decades. Truth is Ukraine is in ruins economically.
