'I know you all are like 'when is the album coming' blah blah blah but there's a lot of great things coming. I promise you.  It's a blessing in disguise that the album hasn't come out because it's just like been freeing me up. Like I don't have any pressure to finish the project because it's a project that's done and I love. So I'm just creating just to create. I'm making it better. That was my intention but by the grace of God.  So honestly like a couple months ago I've been like man my album's done but it's not coming out because you know sometimes I don't have control over everything but god works in mysterious ways and if y'all been hearing the stuff I've been coming with the past couple weeks y'all wouldn't be mad at me no more.'

Honestly, as much as situations like Normani's where it's a never-ending wait for a debut album is getting ridiculous, I do also sympathise with some artists who are under a lot of pressure from their fans to finish an album and release it as quickly as possible. Back in the day before fans had access to artists all the time on social media, fans would just have to wait, and the artist would basically be invisible to them in the time they were working on their album, and eventually it would come out. We're definitely in the era of instant gratification but I do also think waiting 4/5 years and still not releasing an album (in Normani's case) and only one single every year is kinda pushing it with your fanbase.

She had a lot of hype last year and it feels like the Normani story is repeating itself, hopefully it's not the case.

Yeah like even bjork whose been in the game for 40+ years was like “yeah my album’s done but idk when it’s coming out maybe end of summer?” When she was interviewed in January. Thankfully in her case they’re not exactly fishing for a hit from her but the point is artists don’t really control release dates unless you own the whole shebang ala Beyoncé with Parkwood or Janelle Monáe with Wondaland.
