The new frontlines stabilize in Ukraine following the success in Kharkiv

After the spectacular counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Army in Kharkiv, it seems that things slowed and the new frontlines stabilized. The Russians were mostly able to hide beyond natural obstacles (the Oskil and Siversky Donets river), even so new footage confirms Ukrainian presence on the left bank of Kupyansk (source), which means that Ukrainians already have a presence beyond the river from where they might atempt to push further into Russian-occupied Kharkiv.

Many analysts are looking at what could Ukraine's new moves be. This is obviously hidden in layers of clever misinformation (as it was the Kharkiv offensive), but potential directions for a new counter-attack would be the the Azov Sea coastline, the Luhansk province or the north of Donetsk. Precisely here, the Ukrainians are said to have liberated 4 settlements today: Studenok, Sosnove, Yarova and Dibrova - all in the direction of Lyman.

Further south the Ukrainians are also confirmed to have retaken the control of Spirne - small village which was fought over during the entirety of last summer and which lies right at the entrance in Luhansk.

Fighting also continues in Kherson, were uncofirmed rumors saying that Ukraine retook Kyselivka yesterday were proven wrong. The town is super important as is seen as a gateway to Kherson city proper, as such there is heavy battle over it.

Based on what I've been seeing, this war seems more likely to be playing out like the first Italo-Ethiopian war. A nation seeing the danger of a stronger nation, and then being prepared to win. Even if this plays out like the second one with a Russian victory, it still does have some accuracy because Italy still struggled in round two as well.

Could be similar, especially given how the Italian army was infamous for being badly preperated in the military conflicts they got involved (no offence to the Italians on this site ). Italy had an imperial past seeing itself as the First Rome, which propagandistically justified its territorial ambitions in the Mediterranean region and Africa, while Russia has the URSS and, to some extend, Tsarist Russia, which saw itself as the Third Rome (they love to talk about the imperial polity as if there is some continuity to modern-day Russia, but there is not: Russia became democratic, then it was taken over by the Soviets. Present-day Russia is NOT the a heir to the empire that controled Alaska or Fort Ross).
