Ricky Martin filed a lawsuit Wednesday against his nephew that accused him of extortion, malicious persecution, abuse of law and damages — stemming from false allegations of sexual abuse.

Martin’s lawyers said the claim by the nephew, which he has since recanted, has cost the singer millions of dollars in lost income.

The lawsuit filed in the U.S. territory’s Court of First Instance alleges that Ricky Martin has been “persecuted, besieged, harassed, stalked and extorted” by his “troubled” nephew for economic reasons.

It further alleges that if the nephew doesn’t obtain any financial benefit, he would continue to “assassinate the reputation and integrity of the artist.”

The lawsuit contends the harassment has continued even though Martin’s nephew, identified as Dennis Yadiel Sánchez Martin, admitted under oath in July that he had never been sexually assaulted by the artist.

Sánchez had previously taken legal action against his uncle based on those false allegations, which prompted a judge in Puerto Rico to issue a restraining order against Martin in July that a court later suspended.

Those allegations cost Ricky Martin at least $10 million in lost income as a result of canceled contracts and projects as well as $20 million in damages to his reputation, according to the lawsuit.

Probably something they should’ve thought about before falsely accusing someone of sexual assault

If he can sue the nephew for slander it means the recanting part wasn't negotiated by both parts I guess?

So it's not a case of martin paying the dude to recant his accusations with a NDA etc... The nephew actually retracted it without pressure, he really just tried to destroy his uncle...

Us gays were enough wrongly associated with predators, pedos etc historically. We should sue against each lie and never let one rumor fly imo.

I don't think he cares about the money at this point. It's revenge he's after since if the nephew loves money so much what more punishment can he have than having to pay millions to the person he allegedly tried to extort money from.

Whole story is sad tbh. The nephew and his mother [Rickys sister] apparently have suffered from long term mental health issues. Just based on what the family has said and what others have dug up I genuinely don’t believe this was a case of the nephew trying to extort or ruin his uncle for any specific reason - it’s just a manifestation of his mental health. Unfortunately even with the accusations recanted for his public image and career not to be ruined he HAS to proceed with a legal case against the nephew - and even if he wins his case the allegations will follow him forever. People don’t care about the truth they care about the first shocking headline and that one alone. I hope one day at least the entire family can have some peace after this. :/

Good, his nephew deserves to be sued AND more.

Falsely accusing a gay public figure of grooming, incest and molestation is DISGUSTING and should be punished to the furthest extent of the law.

And shame on anyone who shared these false accusations and immediately believed his nephew. We have GOT to stop holding trial by f*cking twitter, guys. An accusation does not automatically mean truth.

Economy

I don't like the way contracts and stuff get "cancelled" based on unproven allegations

The me too movement is supposed to raise awareness of taking allegations seriously, not brushing them off and that would obviously also involve an investigation not automatically prosecuting the offender without proof

Yup, as usual.

I find it really disturbing how blood thirsty everyone is on here. Or anywhere online, really.
