The protesters demanded the resignation of the current coalition government led by conservative Prime Minister Petr Fiala, criticizing it for a number of issues, including its Western-oriented policies. They condemned the government for its support of the sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine and accused it of not being able to tackle soaring energy prices. The demonstrators also criticized NATO, and the European Union and the 27-nation bloc's plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reach climate neutrality. The country belong to both organizations. theidlerwheel 435 Posted September 3, 2022 Share Posted September 3, 2022 My family is from a ex soviet nation, and a very loud minority of these ppl still exist there (mostly older ppl or russian immigrants) even though Russia has invaded, occupied, and committed heinous war crimes in that country, some ppl r just idiots I guess. Yeah, 70,000 protesters is a staggering number especially in a small country like Czech Republic I hope they're really a small minority. Because if they're not we're doomed. For half a year, they have witnessed the futility of war, inflation, uncertainty brought by winter, unemployment, hunger. And it will get worse. People want to live. They did not celebrate Russia, they did not justify the war. They just want to avoid ruin, because they don't have to. Everyone should demand from their politicians and ruling structures that their own people come first. Although, as usual, the full does not trust the hungry. If the European governments didn't sanction Russia, they might have cheaper (not even actually cheap) gas for one or two years now and then be dependent on a lying dictatorship that's already been meddling with their internal affairs and spreading misinformation for years now. Doesn't seem like a good payoff to me. The benefits for western Europe would be short-term whereas now, with sanctions, Russia might benefit for a year and then tumble into economic disaster. So the rest of the Europeans have to starve and freeze because that's the only way? Do you understand what you are writing? Reduced purchasing power directly affects hundreds of thousands of jobs, reduced business turnover results in layoffs in all economic sectors. Should I watch my mother or child starve, in order not to be pro-Russian? The reality is that Russian gas drives Europe's economy. Who is to blame for that? Ordinary man not for sure. The same people who are now urging us to tighten our belts, turn off the heating, eat and travel as little as possible are to blame. They don't feel the consequences. They are tucked away in the millions, they own a couple of mansions, airplanes, and a fleet of vehicles. They think they are untouchable. The people on the street will show them that they are not.
