I would agree but I think it sounds like a perfect "credits song". Aura-Gypsy is ARTPOP, Applause is what plays as the theater empties and everyone talks about how good the show was

Red Flame was for Broke with Expensive Taste and Ratchet was for ARTPOP. Azealia mentioned it in an interview once.

But wasn’t it made by DJWS? I feel like that would pretty much make it for Gaga’s record since he was her producer.

the relevance ARTPOP still holds to this day whew, album of the millennium indeed 

she could've released a deluxe version and include tea, onion girl, maren, sire, ilwy, temple, etc. cuz if they were in the tracklist it's cuz they were finished... a lost.

That’s how I’ve always imagined it too. Gypsy is the protagonist riding off into the sunset, Applause is the literal audience applauding and cheering after seeing the progress made through the album from Gaga being a wondering slave to a woman of choice.

I think Gaga herself said Applause was the last track added to the tracklist. It’s not that the song didn’t exist before, it was just not considered to be in Final Cut until later

The only thing we know for sure is that ARTPOP was the original 15 tracks + Brooklyn Nights, Temple and Nothing On But The Radio but those 3 got scrapped obviously. Brooklyn Nights was fighting against Mary Jane Holland for spot #12 at some point too when they shortened it to 15 tracks.

Gaga and/or DJWS also said that Applause being the lead single was Troy's idea when they didn't even plan for it to be part of the album.
