Controversiaga 11,313
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_pop ^^^^ While looking at Grace Jones’ second studio album, FAME, I noticed the genre “art pop”. I clicked it, and it took me to the official “art pop” page on Wikipedia. I found it strange that the page mentions many many decades of artists, from 1960-today, but no mention of Lady Gaga or her album ARTPOP. While Mariana Diamondis, Lorde, Madonna, Lana Del Rey are mentioned, Gaga is not even listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_art_pop_musicians is Gaga officially a non-art pop artist ? thoughts? Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”

alsemanche 93,885
Well yeah Gaga isn't an art pop artist, she's a pop (and jazz) artist Even ARTPOP itself isn't really art pop (except maybe the title track) Soft, soothing, and succulent

So she has dabbled in art pop genre , and she tried to devote an entire era and album to the genre, so I am surprised there’s no mention of her in the 2010s section on that wiki page Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Lol ! Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
tomsches 17,417
Cause there’s not one song on ARTPOP that’s Art Pop. Gaga has never done a song that’s art pop. Also, what Gaga considers ARTPOP is not really related to the genre of art pop so her influence on the genre besides the similarity of the name is minimal. That’s why she isn’t mentioned. AURAOFSHEISSE 6,516
ARTPOP isn’t art-pop putting it simply “Hands on your knees, I’m Angelina Jolie”

Here is the Wiki def of the term art-pop Art pop (sometimes hyphenated or written as one word) is a loosely defined style of pop music influenced by art theories as well as ideas from other art mediums, such as fashion, fine art, cinema, and avant-garde literature. 30 minutes ago, JustDance1122 said: I love how all three of y’all just kinda didn’t care to explain what the genre actually is besides saying “Gaga isn’t it” because looking around online it seems like a vague concept “Hands on your knees, I’m Angelina Jolie”

Like, if a hip hop song referenced cinema it wouldn’t be called art pop automatically. And while Gaga references these things a lot in her lyrics and music videos, Art pop is a musical genre first and foremost and none of Gaga’s songs sounds anything like the music of the artists listed on Wikipedia.
