Enigma (song) Appreciation Thread (tiny spoiler)

Has been my favorite song from Chromatica since day 1 and is probably in my top 2 of all time. The energy is unreal, especially at TCB.

Enigma was created to be played at a STADIUM and I'm glad the Chromatica Ball happened and we got to see that, even those of us who didn't get to attend. I love listening to it in loud speakers and heavy bass.

I remember looking at the tracklist for the first time and thinking Enigma would have more of a "cosmic" instrumental/vibe ish so listening to it for the first time was quite the surprise, same for Replay. Both songs were growers but I love them so much now.

Thanks for the appreciation! This has been my fav from the album since the beginning.

To me it sounds like a love-letter to her audience. I agree it seems to quite literally describe the moment before she goes onstage. Even more specifically the moment she goes onstage at the SB or Vegas maybe,since there she floated in from above with the crowd below her.

We could break all of our stigma - This is like her motto on stage from day one, I don't want you to leave loving me more, I want you to love yourself more. But this song is not just for little monsters, but also the GP that came to watch her with a more sceptical, less open mind:

Dragon's eyes watch, goddess breathing. Give me something to believe in.

The push and pull of the public. She is determined to become one with the crowd en be like an avatar to them, live out the fantasy of whatever they feel Gaga is to them, in return she is fuelled by the love from the crowd.

This love to her is so real, so true, even when it appears to be shallow to the naked eye.

To me the song has always had this meaning and I was so happy she performed it and in the 'freestyle' happy way she did, cause it made it very cute and casual, just Stefani rockin out with us having a good time.

And I love how at the same time this song can just as well describe 2 people meeting in a club for the first time that seem to have an unusual attraction to each other.

The whole arena was flooded with violet light and of course she was scared and nervous to perform again after so many years... (she once said she's always nervous before a show) but still she's standing there and doing it.

 

Is what she's seeing real or is it all just virtual? She probably can't believe what she's seeing (thousands of people) Sometimes it must be like a dream for her I guess... I mean it must be insane to perform for so many fans...

After TCB I am even more in love with Enigma and now count it among my absolute favorite songs (even though I adored it before) but now it has a special place in my heart cuz that performance was epic!

It’s branches - Twitter, IG, Tiktok and those big whatsapp groups were full of pics and people saying it looks like a dragon's head. (which it does if u look closely) or it could be any other creature. I don't think it's a coincidence with Gaga

I believe Gaga even liked a tiktok comment saying so.

Not saying it necessarily has to be true, but many people believe it to be a dragon's head.

I was a bit letdown by the fact Enigma performance at CBT had no killer choreo and fabulous visuals tbh, I expected it to have a Replay level of slayage! I love the song so much and I agree about the instrumental, it’s so exuberant, elegant and powerful

It's not the best off Chromatica imho, but definitely not the worst. I don't get this much praise, but each one has his own taste and of course I respect it.

Alice, Replay, Sine, 911, Babylon, Rain on Me and Free Woman TO ME - and only me - are better than Enigma, but she really elevated it live

Enigma during the CBT was a highlight for me, I was already super excited since its one of my favs on the album alongside Alice and Babylon. So when it was just her making love to her mic stand and then parading back to the main stage to the instrumental ugh my soul 

But yeah an absolute bop and single worthy song

Guys no, this theory where Gaga has every single detail figured out (so she made it vaguely looking like a dragon head on purpose because of Enigma's lyrics) is so unrealistic. She does plan things out closely but this is just a delusion like "I want just to be loved, love" and Paparazzi being out of the setlist because it was made with Rob Fusari.

What is your problem with people believing it is a dragon's head? We're not saying it's a fact. We believe it to be which doesn't mean you need to believe it.

Enigma is great on stage. It’s a perfect song for gaga 02, the diva extravagant belter. It’s like her queen of the night moment, every diva has a song like that. I love it and am very happy it features the tour
