dit 46,738
I am 100% here for this! That said, it could pose as a SERIOUS safety risk so there needs to be another element to this. There need to be counsellors on site to intervene should any crisis occure. Lots (and I mean lots) of homeless people also experience other issues such as struggles with drug issues and what not and this could be a problem if you are letting in someone with serious drug issues or violent tendencies in a place where there are women and kids all around. This of course does not mean I am not here for it. I am 100% here for it and it will do so much good...like dramatically BUT there needs to be an extra layer to this and it needs to involve counsellors and perhaps some other form of security (plz no police involvement but at least some basic security in every hotel just in case). This needs to happen to protect guests but most importantly the hotel workers (especially cleaning ladies) who have to come into hotel rooms to clean things...it's unfair for them to have to clean needles or to be ambushed by someone experiencing psychosis or on a drug high). Werewoof 2,487
I hope this goes through!! And I hope that they give serious thought to how to make sure this goes smoothly and how to ensure safety for everyone there.
Schwerk 7,453
This won't solve much I'm afraid. Those hotels will be more comfortable then the streets, but just as unsafe I'm afraid. Many homeless people deal with addiction, abuse and mental health problems. I think this is just a way to move the issue even more out of sight of the 'regular' people. The focus should be more on preventing homelessness in the first place. It's disgusting to me how Americans get treated by their government. It's seems like a one strike and you're out kind of society and that's so depressing. Meanwhile the wealthy can get away with anything.
