Original Sailor Moon lost pilot finally found in full!

If anyone remembers, Sailor Moon was originally going to be created by the makers of Power Rangers (Saban) and instead of dubbing it from the Japan anime, it was to be completely Americanized and remade as a half live action and half Saturday morning cartoon-style.  The original sailor scouts were to feature a Hispanic, African American, and Asian Sailor Scouts, and one using a wheelchair. The girls rode surfboard / sailboat contraptions that rocketed them into space and would feature musical numbers.

Anyways, this pilot only existed as a quick promo trailer shown at the 1995 Anime Expo but never in full. After all this time it was finally found online as of yesterday thanks to Ray Mona, follow her Youtube channel as she chronicles her journey to find this lost piece of media. It is CRINGE it is 90s it is amazing <3

I mean this with zero hyperbole but could you imagine how different the world would be if the original Sailor Moon was never released outside of Japan for foreign consumption? I mean, that anime is one of the most influential magical girl series of all time, and played a HUGE role in introducing anime, shojo manga, and so much more to so many around the world. It is one of the quintessential queer series for a reason too.

Omg!!!!! I’ve seen the footage of this for years and never thought I’d see the entire thing!

I can't believe they whitewashed Luna 

I don't think this would've been as globally impactful as the anime we got, but it's a fun thing to see. It's funny how people claim old media wasn't trying to be "woke" and didn't have "forced inclusion", but this could've be the nightmare of the 90's conservatives lol. 

I find the transformation sequences kinda cool tho, specially for it's time.

Honestly the anime was pretty "mediocre" imo, they spent half of the episode with the girls transforming and doing choreos for attacks that do nothing. I only watched it bc anime dubs in my country are amazing and it's always a pleasure to hear them, but other than that, I always found it to be a very silly show.

it sounds like if the series would be picked up, it would be that Tuxedo mask attends a boys school across the river and the girls at the girls school crush on the boys during the day, and fight crime at night in cartoon form.

according to one of the guys responsible for the live action portions- they had to sedate the cat for scenes bc he kept peeing everywhere ;(
