i agree - beyonce has never been vocal about her lgbt support, its always something thats been considered a given, but shes never been vocal like gaga. but now she wants to profit off ballroom and house music and pass it off as "homage to the gay community" even tho shes never been that vocal about it because she knows it would alienate her black fans cuz a lot of them are conservative when it comes to lgbt issues.

Except both Beyoncé and her husband have been pretty vocal about their support for the LGBTQIA+ community and most of her black fans are completely fine with it. To the point that they both recieved GLAAD vanguard awards for being outspoken allies for so much of their career. 🙂

I'm sorry to tell you, but the fact that Beyonce, Jay Z, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato have all won the GLAAD Vanguard Award and Lady Gaga hasn't COMPLETELY delegitimizes that award and whatever it may stand for :oprah:

Like I love Beyonce but let's be f*cking real here, she really hasn't done much over the years. But go ahead and hold on to that one if you makes you feel better about Bey and her silence towards the gay community :awkney:

Taylor Swift has also won that award. So let’s just say that all three of them are on the same level Allyship-wise 🙂

I am entertained and agree with some of her points but she is clearly writing from a great anger and sandness, I kinda feel for her…

Whether I'm personally a fan of them or not, everyone you've mentioned got the award because they've all actively been an outspoken ally or member in their career. So I disagree. I don't have to make myself feel better because she's been far from silent. Maybe the things she and her family have done/said in support and solidarity just haven't crossed your radar. :reductive:

To get back on topic, part of me is glad to see some kinda of attempt for championing queer culture from Ms. Banks after her string of highly homophobic statements. However poor this particular attempt might be. :trollga:

I mostly agree with AB in this moment. I do usually agree with her takes about music like this. But it’s not because she’s so so clever. She just said it as it is; that Beyoncé is kinda phony, but she plays the commercial game very well to come across as authentic.

Yeah agree. Beyonce doesn't do interviews to maintain some aura of mystery... But really it's because what she has to say isn't all that interesting and her minders know it.

Yes just because your fave hasn't won it, it's illegitimate. And that means the 29 people who've won it including the likes of Liza Minnelli, Elizabeth Taylor, Cher, and Josh Hutcherson (some of the most vocal, active, and unwavering supporters of LGBTQ+ rights Hollywood has ever seen) have all won it illegitimately as well.

Makes sense.

Just because those people have won the award doesn’t mean Beyoncé and specifically, Taylor Swift were deserving of it. They have done absolutely nothing for the LGBTQIA+ community in their careers. They didn’t even speak about them until it was cool. Taylor even has blatantly homophobic lyrics in her music.

I wasn't debating whether or not they deserved it. I was saying that you cannot call the whole thing illegitimate simply because Lady Gaga hasn't won it when the overwhelming majority of the people on the list are deserving. If one wants to criticize one or two then go ahead, but that's not where it stopped. Don't delegitimize an award given out by a more than reputable organization that has been on the front lines supporting every LGBTQ+ equality movement since it's inception simply because a celebrity you happen to be a fan of hasn't been on the list.

I don’t think they meant the award is not legitimate. They just meant it lost its true meaning after a bunch of undeserving people were awarded. It’s a lot more easier to buy PR awards now than it was back in the day after all.

I'm curious about how many of these points still stand when you also apply them to her own music?
