The thing is, he's never stated his sexuality. He says "the world may never know" and then uses skirts, etc to appeal to a broader audience.

And? So If you wear a skirt you’re automatically gay or bi? I don’t get this demand for “pick a label NOW” from the gay community.

His sexuality is his business, period. If he is vague or Wants to remain sexually ambiguous, then that is also his business.

So we're just gonna cherry pick information here? If you read the discussion leading up to the response you quoted from me, you'll see I was saying we're upset about the DESCRIPTION not the label. There very much is a difference. Also, no, just wearing a skirt isn't the only thing he's doing. The flags, movie role, etc. are other things. I'm not sure why he feels like he's a representative of a community he doesn't even publicly identify with in terms of how he feels gay sex should be portrayed in film. And most importantly, these questions are pre-screened by his team for interviews. Why is it that this is a topic that is allowed to be visited every few months if he didn't wanna talk about it? This REEKS of queerbaiting. I feel like the definition of queerbaiting, from Dictionary.com's slang dictionary is generally accepted:

"The term queerbaiting refers to the practice of implying non-heterosexual relationships or attraction (in a TV show, for example) to engage or attract an LGBTQ audience or otherwise generate interest without ever actually depicting such relationships or sexual interactions.

For example, a TV show may be accused of queerbaiting when interactions between two same-sex characters are consistently suggestive of sexual attraction or a sexual relationship but the characters never actually enter into such a relationship (including and especially when their sexuality isn’t otherwise discussed or portrayed).

The term queerbaiting is used to criticize the practice as an attempt to take advantage of and capitalize on the appearance or implication of LGBTQ+ relationships without actually having real LGBTQ+ representation."

“Omg don’t ask me about my sexuality, it’s private!! But also keep asking me and I’ll keep dragging it out cause it’s pretty great promo for me!!! But please, my sexuality is private, it’s not cool to force people to come out of the closet. But I’m not in the closet! Or am I?? Oooh you’ll never know because it’s my private matter! But also please keep bringing it up because it generates headlines for me! Thanks!”

You’re projecting onto me now, I’m not gatekeeping anything.  I took issue with him putting down queer artists making out their work is smut compared to what he’s making… when he doesn’t even claim the label and it’s also incorrect.  He doesn’t get to speak on our art if he doesn’t want to be a part of our community, he just wants to dress as us and keep the “larry” flame burning because his fans love it.

Take your own advice and take a breathe, we’re allowed opinions on this. You don’t think this way, that’s cool!

That's not what I'm reading from Harry's post at all :laughga:

It's a massively popular misconception that gay sex is always about fetishes, being perverted, etc. Harry simply said he's hoping to combat that misconception and represent gay sex in a real way.

“So much of gay sex in film is two guys going at it, and it kind of removes the tenderness from it.”

I don’t really see that as him talking about misconceptions, he’s explicitly calling out “gay sex in film.”  It’s also not true, as so many gay actors, directors and creators are calling out online.

If it's not true than I haven't seen the movies that portray us as anything other than either confused and tortured souls, campy and loud bffs to female protagonists, or the butt of the joke when teasing the straight male protagonist :bear:

Idk, I don't see why everyone's chomping at the bit and ready to cancel this man when he's about as offensive as vanilla ice cream :rip: even if you read into this statement in the worst way, the worst case scenario is he's just factually incorrect but with good intentions :laughga:

I think there’s a lot of factors into why he’s catching so much flack, some out of his control but some very much in.

History is a big one.  The gay rights movement has had to fight tooth and nail to get where we are today, to a place in the world where he can stand on a stage in a dress and it isn’t front page news and he’s disowned by his family, friends and fans.  Gay bashing was still a thing in his lifetime, he’s a year older than me and I remember it.  That wasn’t straight men fighting for that change, that was unapologetic gay men and trans people.  We’re now at a turning point in history, the Supreme Court has just abolished legal abortion for many women and they’re rubbing their hands at the thought of taking away gay marriage.  The two conservatives vying to rule the U.K. have both said they want to tear up the equality act, attacking many trans and gay rights.  He has the biggest platform in the world, wants to use gay culture, play gay roles but when it comes to being there for that community, he wants to remain labelless and critiques our art.  He’s either in the community or not, he doesn’t get to take our roles and parade around as us if he doesn’t also want to stand with us.

“Pro Harry” users are right, he doesn’t owe me or any individual here a coming out story or a definition of who he is.  He does however owe the pioneers that have fought to allow someone like him pose in a dress for a fashion magazine and he owes it to the future generations.

If he is uncomfortable with people forming opinions then he should do what everyone has been telling him to do, blacklist these questions.  He won’t though, because he is as you have said “vanilla.”  He has no buzz about him other than this “is he isn’t he” story and the gay community is quite rightly annoyed about it.  We aren’t here to further your career, either stand by us and we’ll support you or jog on!

SCOTUS will likely come after gay marriage in the coming years but apparently, Harry has evolved ahead of all of us, to the point where gender and sexuality is no longer a big deal. He is hiding his sexuality not because of fear, but for privacy. A true reverse Warholian expedition.

People shouldn't have to prove their sexuality imo, people say the same about Gaga but you believe it when she says it but not when he does

But at least Gaga does plenty of things for our community. Harry just waves a flag around.

I mean to be fair he’s also helped fans come out, gives speeches at his shows about encouraging everyone to be their true selves and being kind to everyone, very similar to the way Gaga speaks at her shows. A lot of fans feel a safety and comfort at his shows the way Gaga fans feel at her shows.

He's starting to annoy me, and I was a stan when he was in 1D. I don't think he's even bi at this point and completely using us gays for success which would be disgusting.
