Austin Butler truly deserves an Oscar nomination, his performance was scarily good. In the end when they switched to real footage, it took me a long time to realize it wasn’t Austin anymore. He got Elvis’ speaking voice down perfectly. Yes! It easily became my favorite biopic of the year.

The only thing that I didn't enjoy was that it was too long, Tom Hanks' annoying character and the way the story is being told. That narration bored me a little bit and Tom Hanks' overdramatic stuff. I watched it in theaters by the way. If I had watched it at home I'd have paused it like a thousand times to take a break. This exactly. I needed to see it in a theatre or not at all. The loud surround sound, giant screen really works for the over the top style of Baz Luhrman. It really sucks you into the screen. It dragged a bit in places but it was also very cleverly done and the actors are great. Love how they included modern black artists in the soundtrack and went all out, since Elvis was all out as well. Not my fav biopic but glad I saw in the theater. HermioneT 1,998
Yes, but partially! I love how it captures various aesthetics (the circus theme and Vegas) and the first half was really great. I did not like the focus on the Tom Hanks character at all. Also, it didn't showed a lot of how Elvis actually developed, made and thought about his music, which is a bit of a bummer. The second half is just too long. But, if you like his music like I do, it's still absolutely enjoyable (but keep in mind it's actually a very sad story). It's like a painting or poem about someone's life, with big themes that were taken into consideration to tell a story (reason why we don't see certain things because they are irrelevant to the idea of this movie). It is a representation on screen of a life that also represented something bigger, society in the US, the artist vs the seller, the object vs the human, the media storm, the idea of an "idol" and "icon"; the image/the human, the money vs the humanity in us. It is only just that. And when you see Colonel making a deal for 5 years in Vegas, you see them writing it down on a piece of tissue, and that tissue is stained with wine, this is only a metaphor for blood stains, these kind of deals killed the human. The hazy feeling of the editing, feels so fast sometimes, takes your breath away, to me a great representation of how fast, violently fast Elvis rose to fame, he couldn't even sit with it or realize it, take it in. Happened so fast. It's an artistic vision, it's a fever dream, not really a biopic imo. It even used the rock of eternity, birds and flying into the story. This was Elvis' need for freedom. Notice how by the end everything is much slower? No rapid songs, no rapid editing anymore, he rose to fame and he hit a plateau, he got tired, there's nothing anymore, but memories of the past, and it's the end of his life and journey in this planet. I don't know about you but it hit me hard, it wasn't supposed to be accurate 100%, it's supposed to show you the colors of his life and it did it splendidly in my opinion. Even non fans can come out of it feeling some sort of empathy or emotion. I find this movie to be just so beautiful on an artistic level, full of symbolism too

Luke78619 23,330
It kinda dragged for me, especially when I remembered that it would finish when he died and just thinking “he’s still not dying, there’s ages left” I still liked it though, was entertaining and found out so much about him insta: good_lukeing | I have nothing else to promote
androiduser 7,438
I enjoyed it, I've always liked Elvis and I am fascinated by his life story and career. The movie was a bit over the top with all the Baz Luhrmann effects, but Austin Butler more than makes up for everything

beli8 1,434
I liked it a lot. Im not a huge fan of Elvis or anything but I do appreciate him and the huge mark he left on the history of rock n roll. I dont really like musicals except for Baz's lol I guess I need the fast pace ans flashy aspects or else they bore me? Did anyone notice the tiny sample of Toxic in it btw? It was towards the middle when they were showing him doing an acting role in a tropical/beach like movie? It was super subtle and short but I was like ooooh that's definitely Toxic.
