Bjork has been doing that since the 90s and has continued doing it with her recent work

well tbh I don’t think the homogenic cover art would be well received if it was released now

It already has recieved (unfounded) backlash and accusations of cultural appropriation actually even though Björk made the explanation pretty clear

everyone who's famous, are too scared to express their opinions for public backlash.
So now everyone is silent, and let whatever go on. It only leaves the nobody's with a voice, that nobody is going to listen to.

The way that artists have to change lyrics to songs when it wasn’t even their intention to offend for a word not part of their culture for an angry tweet with 1k likes……..

Not all bad bc girl I’ve hoped Gaga would change the BTW lyrics for the last 11 years :laughga: the racial slurs were weird even then lmao like sometimes we need a little cultural intervention on artists :laughga:

Anyone who uses the term "cancel culture" seriously and who believes that there is such a thing, is a part of the problem.  Same with the words "sjw",  "woke",  etc. They're red flags that say "this person is wolf in sheep's clothing" to me.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

Art that offends people (and I mean actually offends people,

I think this is the problem. We only like controversial art if it offends a viewpoint we disagree with but if it offends our beliefs we need to silence them.

Art isn’t 100% authentic anymore and you can tell artists have to filter how they view the world or they’ll get “cancelled” and starve.

Yes cancel culture is real, nobody is losing their career but the art itself is tainted by public opinion. It’s watered down, doesn’t make you think. The internet before was a wild place with endless angles of expression and opinion, a dance of ideas. Now, its putting one viewpoint on a pedestal and silencing everybody who thinks differently.

Art should reflect and be a commentary on reality. Now it’s just meaningless visuals or some blanket safe statement we already agreed on.

this only really applies to mainstream art, which has always been watered down for profitability way before "cancel culture" was a thing

Bullshit. <-- (opinion)

"Cancel culture" is just some people expressing their opinions, and other people not liking it. And the only thing celebrities have to do with it is that they had more people listening in the first place, so more people might disagree. Get over it, it's the Internet.

Let me put it another way: People who complain about "cancel culture" want the freedom to say whatever they want, have it loudly amplified, and for no one to talk back. That's not something they're entitled to, and nowadays, it's not something they can have, nor should. That only ever "worked" in the realm of one-to-many (broadcast) media.

Yup. People can do whatever they want as their art. They just can't profit from it. But hey,  if they care about "art"  so much,  why is that even a consideration :huntyga:

Well many of this criticism is valid. I don't see the point of writing a song about Ukraine and profiting from it for example, unless it's done in a good way (e.g. not dramatizing the war for profit or idk making fun of it or whatever). There are SOOO many ways to push boundaries and make groundbreaking art (not that I think everyone should or can do that) without fearing being attacked. To stick to artists I know and love, Bjork has been doing that since the 90s and has continued doing it with her recent work, so has Arca, etc. I genuinely don't get the fear factor, especially when the whole 'cancel culture' thing is mostly fiction and literally almost no one gets 'cancelled' in a life-changing way (I mean, look at artists like Nicki Minaj...). Accountability has to exist so we can all evolve and grow as humans and that's nothing new. At the end of the day, Twitter stans are a small pool of people who sometimes yes can temporarily ruin careers (and rightfully so in the case of some artists who are total sh*ts), but most of the time it's just useless online banter that no one will remember after a month or two.

I have to dissagree Cancel culture is very real

Where though?

If cancel culture was very real, Nicki wouldn't have a shred of a career left yet here she is fighting for a #1 on the BB Hot 100, Harry Styles would have been rotting in some cabin in the woods from all the queerbaiting accusations (whether they're accurate or not isn't the point) yet here he is thriving, Dr Luke would have been over yet here he is producing to many artists and profiting, Dave Chapelle and other countless 'comedians' would have been unemployed yet they're still getting netflix deals. Very few, if any, celebrities get practically "cancelled".
