Future Lovers 6,927
Y'all are so bitter sometimes good god, Not even bothering to read why it's eligible and Gaga's short films aren't, just immediately rushing to complain about someone else getting something and Gaga not getting something. The woman already has an Oscar, relax.

Her re-recordings aren't eligible for Grammy nominations. Unless you're referring to something else? If I'm not mistaken it was in 2016 for 1989- released in 2014. She first won AOTY for Fearless so she became the first woman to win AOTY twice. I now realize I worded it wrong with the "same album" but still

Why is Taylor Swift so desperately want an Oscars that she had to go out of her way to compete in an indie category that was meant for smaller filmmakers to get recognized? I'm sure a lot of artists have great music video short films that they think deserve Oscars nomination, but why is no one doing that until Taylor came alone? Because they respect film industry, they know what those nominations mean for smaller filmmakers, an Oscars nomination could launch a career, but if that spot was taken by a big name music celebrity, that is a lost for film industry. If she wants an Oscars so much, she should direct/produce a proper film, or star in a film, or even write music for a film, there are many options for her, but no she wants to sneak into an unpopular category for a quick nomination. That is legal but morally low.

That is legal but morally low. Indeed, why her out of everyone before her who did the same thing? Because it's clearly an avenue that has just been dreamt up recently. It's so predictable that many artists are making long music videos now and citing that they are a "film" in its title. Even with Gaga, it's all a bit pretentious. If it has music in it for the bulk of its runtime and is clearly all based around the song, then it's just a long music video. And when it comes to celebrating those, that's what the MTV VMAs and Grammys are for. There probably are other specific music-video based awards that I can't think of. Artists are not without their options for their videos to be celebrated, basically. They don't need to weasel their way into the film industry, taking the place from people who've spent years on the filmmaking craft specifically. And while Taylor naturally has the options you listed, there's always an obstacle in her way to succeeding with these options. Writing music for a film is the most obvious and she's done that many times (including this year) but it never gained her so much as a nomination. Starring in a film has only led to meh or panned reviews and she's never been in high demand for starring roles. So, the last option is directing/producing an actual film, but that would cut into her primary singing career which is way more lucrative and who knows how seriously a movie directed by a singer would be taken anyway? So, clearly, she thought she could get a short film nomination on a technicality, if she played her cards right. And I really hope it doesn't work out so that the law is laid down, not just for her, but every other singer who wants to try the same thing. Just imagine, every single basic, generic, no-talent singer could effectively just hire the right people to help make a really good long music video, get it screened at a film festival and boom, instant Oscar nomination, Getting nominated for an Oscar is supposed to be difficult, a true honour to achieve. It shouldn't be as easy as "popular singer makes super long music video and automatically qualifies."
