A Louisiana five-year-old was allegedly forced out of her kindergarten class at a religious school because her parents are a same-sex couple.

Emily and Jennie Parker said they were informed by school officials at the Bible Baptist Academy in DeQuincy, Louisiana, during a meeting with the school’s director and a pastor that their same-sex relationship did not follow the teachings of the school and that they would need to find a new school for their daughter, Zoey.

“We got called into the principal’s office for a meeting, they informed us that Zoey wouldn’t be able to go to school there anymore because of our lifestyle choices,” said Jennifer Parker, 31, to KPLC, a local news affiliate.

The Parkers recently adopted Zoey, who is Jennie’s niece, after her father died in a workplace accident in September 2020.

“She lost her father, she lost her mother and now she’s losing her school which she loves very much,” said Jennie to KPLC.

Zoey had previously attended pre-school at Bible Baptist Academy, where, the couple told NBC News, Zoey had many friends and teachers she liked.

The Parkers said that after Zoey’s exclusion from the school, they have received widespread support from the community.

The couple also said they have received several offers from other local Christian schools for Zoey to start her kindergarten year.

This is very upsetting. Glad some other kindergartens are actually decent and offers them support.

This is awful. What is happening to America? Why is world going backwards? I’m scared of our society in the future. Scared is an understatement.

Some gay people can be pretty religious. I think that’s the reason probably. Or maybe it’s just one of the better schools out there?

Edit: there’s a reason in the OP that I didn’t read in full before responding

The daughter attended the pre-school there when her parents were alive, so I guess they're a somewhat religious family and wanted to keep her with her friends

Religious schools shouldn't be a thing anyway. Education should be secular :madge:

You know what, let these people have their 80 years or so on Earth to have there so called upper hand and biased religious views against the LGBTQ+ and their children.

But I know for certain that in the after human life, these biased people will be in the back of the line. I won’t be petty and condemned them, but I will certainly glance at them and smirk. 80 so years for them to feel superior while I have eternity in the afterlife to experience bliss. Guess the jokes on them. 💅

Just so beyond disgusting considering what this poor child has been through. And also this is embarrassing for this school even if they want to think homosexuality is sinful. To expel a child because you have an issue with their parents? How does that fit into teachings of forgiveness and love? Punishing a couple for taking in a child who has already been through so much. Pathetic

Having a religious fundamentalist Supreme Court emboldens all these places to discriminate because they know in the end it will always be upheld.

This is awful and I hope this couple sues the school for discrimination!

Side note - not all Christians/people of religion are bigots so let's stop making this association. The OP clearly states the community has voiced support for the couple and that other Christian schools in the area have contacted the couple to enroll their daughter. Good for them, they are true Christians. :golfclap:
