Muslim Men Are Likely Targeted In New Mexico

The murders of three Muslim men in New Mexico's largest city in the past nine months were likely linked and they appear to have been targeted for their religion and race, police said.

Two members of the same mosque were shot dead in Albuquerque in the last ten days and there is a "strong possibility" their deaths are connected to the November killing of an Afghan immigrant, according to a city police official. In all three cases victims were ambushed and shot without warning, city police said.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S.-based Muslim civil rights group, on Friday offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths.

“If a bias-motive is determined, state and federal authorities should apply appropriate hate crime charges,” CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said in a statement.

sad but not surprising. Muslims have become some of the easiest and most socially acceptable group to be targeted, harassed and killed. People literally speak about muslims in ways no other group would be spoken about without the person saying those things being socially reprimanded but yet it is ok to hate on muslims because it is easy to do so due to horrible media portrayal of ALL muslims as well as due to terrorism (which kills more muslims than any other group).

There is also this narrative that "well Islam is a faith not a race so I can hate it" which is a fair point but is also used as an excuse to say some of the most disgusting things to muslims. Not to mention Islam has in some ways become almost a "racialized" label as most Muslims in the world are of a darker skin complexion and MOSTLY come from the global south so it feels a bit gaslighty to try to separate race completely from Islamaphobia. 

Anyways, I don't see things ending well for muslims in the west. With the rise of Right Wingers in Europe and the rise of extremist Christians in the US I legit think that in a couple decades we will see some really horrible things happen to muslims in the West. Not saying anything on the scale of the holocaust but definitely do see something like what happened to the Japanese Americans during WW2 happening to muslims and that will be an extreme tragedy.
