FfFfFfFF 58,120
Deep down within a Canadian mine researchers made an ancient discovery: the world's oldest pool of water. At a depth of roughly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles), the water dates to an impressive 2 billion years old. The discovery pushed back the date for the oldest known water by at least 500 million years. The mine is in fact the deepest basal metal mine in the world, as the search for copper, zinc, and silver is taking the miners deeper and deeper into the Earth’s crust. “The volume of the water is much larger than anyone anticipated” professor Barbara Sherwood Lollar, who presented the discovery, told BBC News. Anyways, we're gonna find out real soon So true. But ironically my first thought wasn't even the potential germs and viruses but rather how stale the water woulda been by now. Imagine the taste of that water Although I question how many bacteria could ever survive down there for so long without sunlight or other energy source... Some bacteria can survive without sun with heat sources like vents this cavern doesnt have that... No rotting animals or folliage for food... As for viruses, if there's little or no life they cannot thrive There may actually not be that much bacteria down there... Even ice sheets probably have more cuz at least they would have been frozen... In here their metabolisms would have been active with no energy source I can think of. It's probably pretty dead
