Because Taiwan has been part of China for centuries. And because if a superpower asks you to back down from something that threatens the security of its territory, listen. But the US likes to play the world's policeman and expand the market for arms exports.

Taiwanese indigenous peoples have been on the island since BCE times. People from China starting settling in Taiwan during the Ming dynasty, but that didn't make Taiwan part of the Ming dynasty. The southern part was colonized by the Dutch during the 17th century, and Spain settled in the north around the same period. Meanwhile, immigrants from southern China also began to follow suit and settle in Taiwan. In the late 1600s, a Ming dynasty loyalist, after the Ming lost control of mainland China, defeated the Dutch and established a base on the island, but then his forces were defeated by the Qing dynasty two decades later, and at that time, parts of Taiwan were integrated into the Qing dynasty empire in the late 1600s. It's worth nothing that neither the Ming dynasty nor the Qing dynasty governments represent the current Chinese government, and in fact, the Qing was run by Manchus. After losing the first Sino-Japan War in 1895, the Qing dynasty ceded Taiwan to Japan, where it remained a Japanese colony till after WWII, though some may argue that the Qing didn't even have the right to do so. After Japan lost the war, the government of the Republic of China, which was the mainland Chinese government at the time, took over Taiwan. When the KMT/Nationalist Party lost the civil war against the Communists in the mainland in 1949, there was an exodus of Chinese people with KMT affiliations to Taiwan.

The People's Republic of China, which wasn't established till 1949, has never, ever ruled over Taiwan.

I'm not saying it's smart of Pelosi to visit Taiwan, but Taiwan is definitely NOT part of China.

And I am simplifying things because this is a Lady Gaga forum, but this article gives more insight:

So there are still 2 hours..

Either China does a whole bunch of nothing and they prove to have lied, they do something that doesn't directly interfer with Pelosi's plane or straight up shoot it down. Before Russia invaded I felt in my bones something is going to happen, I don't feel like it now.

Or maybe my psychic abilities don't work for territories that far. :sis::sis:
