Rolling Stone names Beyoncé the world’s greatest living entertainer

An article like this comes up every few months, usually more. It's like, we get it, already. Obviously, one was timed for album release week, predictable as clockwork. You are 100% entitled to think that Beyonce is the best, but repeatedly making articles demanding we should think this (and implying there's something wrong with us if we disagree) is not the way to go about getting us all on board with this apparent "fact." Her PR have been pushing this narrative for nearly a decade now and they can't understand that we're over it. The overwhelming LMAO reactions to the announcement post of this thread says it all. The amount of people saying they're not hyped but just curious for the new album also says it all.

Yes, Beyonce can sing and dance. Yes, she has helped (but not been the driving force behind) writing some really good songs. But she doesn't have the full package, despite us being told this. The most obvious element missing is her ability to play instruments. She can play piano but only did it briefly during Sandcastles because she isn't well-versed in it and definitely doesn't do it live. She also seems to give the impression that she isn't that connected to the crowd and is just focused on being perfect. And if we're talking about general entertainment, she has never gained any plaudits as an actress. Her Coachella performance was her last big wow moment because she'd just had twins and knew her body wasn't ever going to be the same afterwards in addition to aging. That's why she went all out with that show because it would be the last time we'd ever see her on that level. I don't know if she'll still have it in her for her upcoming tour. But if her Oscars performance recently was anything to go by, where she just stood on the spot and sang while dancers did all the work around her to make it look as if there was more going on than there actually was, she could well be letting the performance element take a backseat now.

Gaga, on the other hand, has the full package. She can sing well in any genre, write songs, play multiple instruments, dance and have an entire crowd in the palm of her hand and be alive in the moment. Whether she's got a million dollar light show behind her or has nothing but a microphone and spotlight, she dazzles. And she's also a great actress and has been noticed and awarded accordingly. There's even a chance she may go into theatre one day. She's an all-round artist and that, to me, is what makes her the greatest entertainer alive. Why she repeatedly gets overlooked for this accolade even when she's recently done far bigger and greater peformances than Beyonce is beyond me. Beyonce hasn't done a showstopping performance since 2019, she's basically been absent since then. And this is going to be her first solo release in 5 years. We need to stop re-living her glory days. They were longer ago than you think. She's had her fun of being lauded as the best alive for long enough, it's time to give more artists their due.

some of yall saying just about anything while yall havent listened to an album of hers from front to back, watched at least one of her visual albums or the coachella documentary on netflix bringing up 10 year old performances from the i am world tour... :ladyhaha:

I've listened to all her albums and bonus tracks (including Everything Is Love and The Gift) and fully intend on listening to Renaissance. I've seen the entire films of Self-Titled and Lemonade. I've seen her Coachella performance. I've followed her entire career seeing as I grew up with her since she was in DC. In all these years, I've acknowledged that she can be good but few performances have got me as jazzed as everyone else seems to be. I find her quest for perfection has meant that her personality on stage is lacking and she just can't let go and get lost in the moment (apart from maybe Freedom at the BET awards). Raw, unfiltered, emotional performing is what impresses me, not regimented perfection with nothing going on behind the eyes. When Gaga performs, she's doing it to uplift the audience and because artistry is her lifeblood, Beyonce performs because she wants us to look at her and think she's the best ever. I've never seen Beyonce put her heart and soul out onto that stage like Gaga has and that's why she may well be up there but cannot rise to the position of the best of all time for me.

I don’t agree. What about Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Elvis on stage, they all can be on stage with zero background dancers, zero stage effects and entertain you. It’s charisma, presence, talent, depth, soul. That to me is the top notch of entertainers.

Now u could say well u can vote in terms of entertainment and the effects and artistic choices they make on stage. Yeah but… to me u really are the GREATEST entertainer if u can be on stage with nothing and all eyes are on u and u feel entertained. Not many can do that. And also I’m kinda sad no one mentions Jackie Wilson cause I always felt he’s one of the greatest. Beyoncé to me is far from the list… but I always have this feeling she gets praise in the press to avoid criticism and backlash from her fans or people who attribute Bey to african american freedom and rights. Meaning, you have racism in u if u don’t agree, which is so childish and weird

The last bit tho. It's annoying. Anytime I mentioned anything  that's a mild criticism of Beyonce, automatically the racist card is thrown. I just personally dont care for her. Im Mexican for ****s sake.

She's just U.N.T. then? :bon:

I think it all boils down to your personal taste. If you want perfect vocals and choreo, Beyonce is your pick. If you want a more messy and high energy performance, good vocals and choreo, Gaga is your pick.

I have to agree though I don't like her.

Her visuals, styles, live skills are just impeccable, at least way better than our Gaga. Gaga has amazing voice and used to be a better performer (2009-2011), but the visuals of her works/performances couldn't rival Beyonce's, especially in these years.

Just think about that Coachella performance by Beyonce... I wish Gaga hires a new team.

Finally someone with brains here

im sorry but just because you're mexican doesn't mean you cant be racist lol.

im mexican too and the amount of colorism and racism i faced growing up (IN MEXICO) was startling to say the least.

also alot of the criticism towards beyonce is very much based in racism, sometimes its subtle, sometimes its not.

I did. I was all the way here for her visual drops, I think the albums are 'good' and that she is an excellent performer. Beyonce, in my opinion, is still an icon and a 'great' in the making - she's just not the best living entertainer of our generation. Personally speaking, I think you need to be more well-rounded as an entertainer to earn that title.

i def understand this point of view.

And I knew someone was gonna say this. I’m not speaking for EVERYONE, I’m talking about MYSELF.

Of course there is racism and colorism in Mexico, it exists everywhere in the world.

However we are talking about disliking Beyoncé. Just because Beyoncé isn’t my thing, doesn’t make me racist for not liking her music. That’s what makes it annoying,

It seems like you can’t say anything remotely negative about her without her stans throwing out the race card immediately.

Of course there are critics and general music listeners that probably dislike her for the sole reason that they are in fact racist, and that’s incredibly wrong.

However, some people just genuinely don’t care for her or her music and that shouldn’t automatically make you be labeled a racist. It’s incredibly stupid.

To me, Beyonce is not the greatest artist. I do not understand the narrative from time to time, pretending to be. I don't see her passionate about music, I only see her as a businesswoman. It is very good yes, but the best? Not at all. If you were the best, you wouldn't have to remember it and put yourself on a pedestal of perfectionism. Look at Madonna, sometimes she seems crazy 🤐
