FfFfFfFF 58,358 Posted July 20, 2022 Share Posted July 20, 2022 Archaeologists deep in the Jordanian desert have discovered a 9,000-year-old ritualistic complex near what is thought to be the earliest known large human-built structure worldwide. The Stone Age shrine site, excavated last year, was used by gazelle hunters and features carved stone figures, an altar and a miniature model of a large-scale hunting trap. The nearby desert kites in Jibal al-Khashabiyeh are "the earliest large-scale human built structures worldwide known to date," said a statement by the SEBA Project. It featured two steles with anthropomorphic features, the taller one 1.12 metres high, other artefacts including animal figurines, flints, and some 150 arranged marine fossils. The wider, decade-old research project aims to study "the first pastoral nomadic societies, as well as the evolution of specialised subsistence strategies". I'm always thinking about/Googling ancient humans, what was the world like during Ancient Egypt, before them, stuff like that I love it. The absence of written history/artifacts is sad lol and apart from the absence as in they didn't have materials, the history that has been destroyed over time, sooooo much art and history has been destroyed. I wonder what we don't know, all that was lost The Egypt, Middle East areas are an unfortunate case because the arid climate meant that the artefacts were much better kept. For instance there are millions of prehistoric artefacts from Egypt and Sudan. This is not the case in very humid areas like South-East Asia or parts of Asia. Is very unforunate that the area with the richest history was placed in the best climate for preserving history (the alternate 'conspiracy' theory is that other places had much more interesting histories, but the climate simply destroyed them and we just didn't get the chance to discover them ) Ancient Egypt is civilizationally not completely distinct from our way of being. You can find commonalities with this period of our ancient past (this is a time where cities, irrigation, agriculture, public art and central political authorities existed). The really really ancient stuff is what happened before agriculture, if you really want to experience something completely removed from us and rudimentar these are the times I suggest you reading of.
