How companies will raise prices in a literal recession baffles me. @Economy?

and yesterday they announced this fee. they will charge customers who share accounts in my country, argentina, and a few more. tragic :toofunny:

They are going to lose more with this nonsense.

This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.

The streaming market is becoming over saturated and will push people back to piracy no one wants to pay for 20 different streaming services. Also Netflix have a terrible habit of cancelling shows before they're even getting started. I'll never forgive them for cancelling santa clarita diet. That programme was fantastic.

why? i get it has trash films and shows but it still churns out great work and it is still relatively affordable for most ppl? I find it isn't worth removing it? Like cable tv really sucks and the other streaming platforms do not have as much work or as diverse a catalog as Netflix I find. Really odd to see it losing so many subs tbh....could a lot of these be trial accounts or something?

as each country starts getting their own streaming services and take their shows off netflix, people are flocking to those or switching to piracy as the costs keep spreading

in the UK, we have a site called Brit Box that contains a lot of my favourite tv shows that i love to rewatch... i'm debating asking my mum to switch from netflix to that

mother, what must i do?

I'm one of them :vegas:

There just didn't seem to be anything interesting on there anymore, and I hardly ever watched it so I just unsubscribed. Didn't even watch Stranger Things :ladyhaha:

Okay but Stranger Things 4 is actually excellent tho

The market is also super saturated, so people jump services month-to-month. Quality Netflix Originals are so few that in a month a lot of people can watch the essentials and bounce afterwards.

This is exactly what I do

They took the masterpiece that Yo Soy Betty, la Fea out so it's well-deserved

I feel like Netflix is very hit or miss. While it has some amazing original content, on the other hand it does something like Resident Evil... I'm a fan of the games, and I literally want to wash my eyes and brain after episode 1. I guess they should do less, but better. Unfortunately, their current strategy seems to be quite the opposite.

Is there a specific reason? Shouldn’t ST success make more people sub?

I think that strategy/dependency is what’s currently biting them in the a**.

There’s too much focus on having a big name show driving perpetually increasing subscription rates that there is almost zero focus on actually keeping subscribers once they get them.

We’re seeing a combo of a recession, increased (and honestly better) competition, along with questionable business decisions like cancelling popular shows to avoid paying the casts more, increasing prices every year, and trying to charge fees for password sharing.

People have better options now and are spending accordingly.

does Resident Evil hold up as a zombie tv series on it's own or is it just genuinely bad?

i'm not a fan of the games so idc for character accuracy but i do enjoy zombies

This is happening due to rising costs and subscription fatigue. Any company that is pivoting to subscription first models are going to get hit hard over the next few years.

Their originals suck.

Their catalogue of content sucks.

Their algorithm sucks.

They suck.

Honestly I only ever used Netflix for drag race and sometimes a random movie to see if it's any good. Now there's no drag race why would I pay them?
