RAMROD 110,166 Posted July 12, 2022 Share Posted July 12, 2022 A feature film about late British singer Amy Winehouse is in the works, with "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson at the helm of the biopic, production and distribution company Studiocanal has said. Called "Back to Black", the film will look at the life and music of the six-time Grammy Award winner, who died from alcohol poisoning at her north London home on July 23, 2011. Winehouse, who struggled with drink and drug problems through much of her career, was 27 years old. "Back to Black is being made with full support from the Amy Winehouse estate." British filmmaker Taylor-Johnson is known for directing the first "Fifty Shades of Grey" film, an adaptation from the hit book trilogy, drama "A Million Little Pieces" as well as episodes for television series "Gypsy" and "Solos". She's older now - true - but she played Patrizia in her early twenties (as well as older obviously) and it worked. Amy never looked particularly young either. This could be the definitive acting role of Gaga's career. She'd have to really transform in every way. I think she has the twisted experience of fame and addiction and self-destructive behaviour to bring this role to life in a really believable way. Amy died at 27, and the film will be covering her rise in the music industry from when she was 18. There is absolutely no way Gaga could pass for an 18 year old Amy Winehouse. Absolutely not. And Amy's family have also already said that they specifically want someone who is Jewish and British to play Amy, and also somebody who is completely unknown and not a famous celebrity.
