Trump and then Biden not following through with it was a HUGE mistake and Israel's lobbying ot end it was truly a show of foreign intervention messing with a good policy. Was the deal perfect? No but it made the world A LOT safer. Iran is a mess of a state for MANY reasons (much of it internal issues but lots of it due to foreign interventionism ...especially American foreign intervention like the coup d'etat America did to oust Iran's democratically elected official back in the day) but nuclear deal crumbling cannot be blamed on Iran. Furthermore, when a nation is back into several corners, sanctioned BEYOND belief...of course it will start blatantly working with some of the worlds most chaotic and dangerous nations like Russia and China. It's literally survival at this point. Anyways, Russia, China and Iran are truly the "new" axis of evil and they must be contained but sometimes we need to look at ourselves to see and learn from our diplomatic blunders and mistakes to hopefully succeed using new methods. Like you said...they will likely never be on our side again because they once were and then we totally screwed them over (lets be real...that coup d'etat the west organized was HORRIFIC). But it's about making sure the threat is contained. The deal was working! that's what mattered most. It was working. Not perfect but functional and with enough time and "good will / trust building" we could have expanded the conditions and at the same time lifted some of the other remaining sanctioned until relations could be at least semi normalized and voila, Iran would no longer be a pariah state and the US would be upholding its end of the deal and succeeding in containing one of the world's biggest destabilizing states.
