whenever tories got a slither of bad press during the GE, the BBC and Daily Mail were quick to dig up ANY dirt on labour and throw it on the front pages. the BBC were TRASH for how they behaved during the last GE

100% but it works so well tbf

This thread is being derailed and the justification has been ‘because Jeremy could become the next PM’.. he resigned almost 3 years ago and isn’t even in a political party.. there isn’t even a general election ffs. So frustrating and annoying.

You're asking to not turn a blind eye to what's happening in the Ukraine. Whether you're intending it to mean this or not, that's the exact thing that's been pushed by war hawks to get us over there. You can't ask for hyper vigilance and distance at the same time. It's one or the other. A call for us to be involved in any capacity is a call to push boundaries we don't need to be pushing.

As for NATO having some fault...yeah, this is at least in part their fault. There was a time not so long ago where they could've worked to preemptively help protect Ukraine before they were actually invaded and they didn't do it. Now, Putin's there and trying to bait the world into a war and all NATO can do is sit there and watch. They're of no help anymore. They did not use any of their power and influence to extend a helping hand to Ukraine until the Ukrainians were having to beg and die for it. NATO's got Ukrainian blood on their hands, too.

I don't agree with everything Corbyn is saying in his argument, not everything about him in general, but the logic behind it and the wider point he's making is spot on. Demilitarization is a must globally, not just in Ukraine. It is the only thing that will ever give the world even the slightest bit of a chance at peace, and that should ultimately be the goal of every nation. Every nation should strive to reduce the amount of military infrastructure globally, and that's his message. That's his point. He's correct about that and he's correct about NATO (an organization that needs to either be completely restructured or abolished and replaced).

I haven't seen anyone here sympathizing with antisemitism and Putin apologism. Not a person in here has said they support either of those things. They've just correctly said that Corbyn would be a better leader than Boris and any other Tory out there. Which is true. Corbyn would be a better option than almost any conservative.

All that being said, it's never going to happen and you know that. Corbyn's never going to be PM so you bringing him up served what purpose?

As I said, I'm not interested in "beating a dead horse". You are welcome to message me if you want an honest discussion about this.

And I've already addressed this point. If only you read what I said. Yes for demilitarization when there is an international framework for every country. But imposing demilitarization unilaterally on a country currently being attacked by Putin, which is literally one of Putin's demands, and insinuating that Ukraine is currently not nuclear-free (at this point this is conspiracy theory level), is a very shameful thing of a Labour public figure to say. I'm astonished that people can't even admit something as basic as this. This is what politics have done to us, turned us into hiveminds who are always willing to find excuses for our side of the isle.

In anycase, as I said you are welcome to message me if you have further questions rather than quote me here, just to cut the drama.

Yes. It's frustrating and demoralizing to witness it. Even last night, I watched Newsnight and they did a 'montage to music' piece about Johnson, and it was like a goodbye to an old friend. He's not an old friend. He's a disgrace, a liar, an incompetent, a featherer of his own nest, a breaker of rules. He's no good. It should be good riddance, not goodbye.

It's incredible that he is still PM. He isn't being booted out because of disagreement over policy, it's because of scandal, because they've decided he is not a fit peson to hold the position of PM. That means he has to resign from the post NOW. The BBC and the rest of the media should be coming down on this like a ton of bricks, rather than musing over it as if there's something to discuss.

This is a great thread by the way, imo. I know a lot of it was spent talking about Jeremy Corbyn (and that's a bit of a stretch as there is zero prospect of Corbyn or anyone like him becoming PM in the foreseeable future), but it is all important stuff to think about and be serious about, and thanks to everyone for their contributions.

Is it common over there for PM’s to resign?

It’s always been rather common for a PM to resign or be forced out.  In many ways it’s a good thing, you wouldn’t have a second term Obama or Biden now situation where nothing moves because they don’t have the numbers, a PM will simply resign or call an election rather than let parliament stagnate.  It’s become way more common after the Brexit vote as no one can decide what exactly Brexit should be or if we should rejoin the EU :triggered:

He called gay men “tank top bum boys” too

He is just a through and through awful person.

But he’s going now and his legacy will be gross misconduct, failure and one of the worst covid death rates in the world.  He will be remembered poorly :vegas:

Ahh. See that would be quite the scandal here in the US.
