Hayden Panettiere reveals she was addicted to opioids and alcohol for years

Hayden Panettiere spent years battling her addiction. "I was on top of the world and I ruined it," she said.

Panettiere says she was just 15 when someone on her team began to offer her "happy pills" before she walked the red carpets.
She was drinking alcohol and occasionally taking opioids, but meanwhile, her career was flourishing. And as she got older, the drugs and alcohol became something she almost couldn't live without.

Hayden Panettiere suffered from severe postpartum depression after her daughter, Kaya, was born. She would sneak away to drink, and her relationship with Klitschko, whom she began dating in 2009, began to crumble. "He didn't want to be around me," she recalls. "I didn't want to be around me. But with the opiates and alcohol I was doing anything to make me feel happy for a moment. Then I'd feel worse than I did before. I was in a cycle of self-destruction."

At her lowest point, "I would have the shakes when I woke up and could only function with sipping alcohol."
In 2018 Hayden made the decision to send Kaya to live with Klitschko (from whom she had split) in Ukraine. "It was the hardest thing I ever had to do," she says. "But I wanted to be a good mom to her — and sometimes that means letting them go."

The drinking worsened and eventually Panettiere was hospitalized, suffering from jaundice. "Doctors told me my liver was going to give out," she recalls.
Panettiere entered rehab for eight months.

Now she's returned to set to reprise Kirby Reed in the next Scream film, and she's pouring her heart into her work with Hoplon International, the charity she founded in March whose mission it is to raise funds for Ukraine.

Thank you for sharing this, I occasionally wondered what she was doing because she was one of my favs when I was a kid. She is so intelligent, clear minded, and transparent about her struggles. I am proud of her for being so brave and opening up about her addictions and healing process, I really think she will help people by sharing her story.

Wow this makes sense considering she disappeared from big budget movies for awhile. It’s so incredibly sad that’s these types of teams exist in the 21st century, but I guess it’s prof this won’t change. I’m happy she’s on the other side of this now, and looks like Scream 6 will be a big return for her!

I loved her in Heros. It is scary  how  young Hollywood stars are surrounded by teams like that.

It was so tragic that she was playing through a postpartum depression storyline in Nashville whilst going through it in real life, my heart broke for her at the time

To be fair she was busy on Nashville for like 6 years, and that was a massive commitment.

Omg I remember her from Ally McBeal!! Also, didn't she at one point like physically fight against some fishermans to protect some dolphins? She's a hero. I hope she gets better.
