For one thing, it will assist in whatever case gets brought against the shooter (assuming they're still alive and get arrested). The Parkland shooter went down for many reasons but one of them was the ample video available filmed by students from within the school. Building on that idea, it being on video inspires more empathy in people. It's easy now due to the frequency of mass shootings to disassociate and remove ourselves from how horrific they truly are. But when we actually see what they look like, we aren't able to disassociate from it. We're not able to not see it. The videos from the Las Vegas shooting, the videos from Parkland, even way back in the 90s with the video of Columbine, everyone has to see what this looks like up close.
